Gas smell in oil

I know its been talked about over and over again but I have spent hours and hours reading threads about gas in the oil and can't believe there is still no solution to this problem. I have an '02 VRSCA with 4000 miles and noticed the gas smell at around 3000. Thats when I noticed it, not to say it wasn't there before. I bought the bike with 2000 miles on it. Shortly after is when I v-modded the exhaust and added the PCIII. I used the generic 020 map from PC site to start then had it Dynoed and still have the same problem. Just wondering if we all start getting the gas smell problem after the mods or do some of you all stock guys have it too? By the way I also called the HD MOCO and got the run around saying they have never herd of the problem (after my fifth time calling with the same complaint)!!! And calling six different dealers with the same results. I guess it truley is up to the owners to solve this very frustrating problem.

When I first put on my pcIII, on my 06 vrsca, it was running too rich with the canned map. I had that un-burned hydrocarbon smell in mine as well. I changed oil and leaned out my map a bit. New there was no smell because its so lean from the factory. I took some of the old oil (about a tea spoon full), put a flame to it to see if it would light (raw fuel in the oil will catch fire) and it did not. I also rubed the oil between my fingers and it had a lubricating (slippery) feel. The oil did seem thinned out a little. After I leaned out the PCIII by one cell in the low area and one cell in the midrange, I no longer had the fuel smell in the oil. I had a k&n filter, v&h powershots and the pcIII. I never did get it dyno tuned but it ran great and I had no other problems at all for three years, until I traded her in (like a dumb a$$) for my 09 fatboy.

Looks like it might work. I never had problems after I leaned mine out a little, so this is good to know. I will get another v-rod again because I miss mine. A friend of mine has a 08 muscle so I will ask him if he notices any fuel smell in his oil. Thanks for the information. I am a member of the 1130 forum but I have not been on it for awhile, I think I will get on and catch up. If you get that item post and let us know if it takes care of the problem.

Its sounds to me like your running to rich. Try getting the air/fuel ratio checked.

Had it Dynoed a few weeks ago but the engine is a little noisey probally to lean in some spots so i have to get it redone. Even after the dyno still getting the gas smell. Funny though, i red another post about taking out the dip stick for about ten minutes then smelling it. Tried it and the gas smell was hardly there. Give it a try and let me kow if you get the same results.
