Rough day at the Stealership

Brought my bike in for the HD SE1 flash and had them install the filter at the same time as well as a before and after dyno run. Got the bike back with a dent and scratch in the airbox cover (exactly underneath the clamshell) and with 5 small scratches on the frame just under the airbox cover in different spots. Also, with a big spray pattern on the one side of my rear wheel and a few spray spots on the same side of my front. Nothing was said to me at all until I went back in (thank God I looked over the bike before I rode home) I got the service manager out and he looked it over and said they would take care of it. Apparently ordering me a new air box cover, going to touch up the scratches and also ordering the rear and front wheels too. What a f*cked up mess. They said they had their best guy on it, hes been their 15 years. I would hate to see their worst guys work. I told them I understood that mistakes happen, but this was just plain sloppy, rushed work. I told them I was most pissed about the fact that I wasnt told straight up when I got there that this had occured. They were obviously hoping I would get it home first. Anyway, we will see how they correct these problems, as well as some compensation for the lost time that my bike will be back in the shop for the fixes. All of this and all I was getting was a download......

If they did all that putting on some pipes and an air filter do you really want these people messing with the wheels?

I'm glad you checked the bike before you took it off the lot. There's an unfortunate lesson there for everyone who has a dealer service a bike.

Everyone might also want to ask if they have a tech that has been through the V-Rod certifications. I took my bike in last year for the 1k mile tuneup and the tech forgot to re hookup several hoses (cooling system). When I questioned them about it, his response was he didn't know they were their. They no longer touch my bike....

I would demand to watch them work on it when you take it back. I'd also take some good photo's of it ASAP for your own protection. After it's fixed I would not return to that stealer! It's bad enough when something happens but when they just blow it off....................

That is exactly why I do my own maintance, nobody will treat my bike like I will. There is absolutely NO reason for that kind of damage or treatment to your motorcycle while performing such a simple task as a ECM update, period! And it was "their best tech"? I would advise you to take pictures of the damage, write some notes, keep a log of contact with the stealership about this just in case they don't correct everything and you need to complain to HD about them. I took my Vrod back to my dealer once, at 1k miles for the free checkup and oil change they promised me. Went pretty smooth other than taking 4-5 hours, I waited for it, made an appointment early one Saturday, no damages. But the only way it'll be back is a serious warranty problem. That free first maintance/ oil change would regularly cost about $225+ per visit, heck I can replace oil and filter and perform routine maintance tasks as prescribed in manual, for a lot less, and without damages, and losing lots of my time. So far my VROD has been problem free, what a fine machine. Hey good luck and I hope they fix, restore your bike to it's as new condition, as it should be. Then stay away from them!

Sorry to hear about your damages.

I know when I took my V-Rod in for a leaking water pump, which they RTVed the gasket. They checked the bike over with an incomming check list. Well, when I got it back I did the same with their checkist and found the airbox cover not installed correctly and could of lifted up with air flow.

Take good photos, note all damage and submitt a complaint via H-D via that dealer.

They will take care of you as they don't want it to get elevated to the District Mgr. which it probably will anyway.

Keep us posted...
