My brother had a 2005 v-rod he just took it in for the 5000 mile service. Since it has been in a problem has developed. As he is shifting from a higher gear into first sometimes there is a grinding sound going into first. Notthing has changed except he went from syn 3 to ams oil. What could this be?
For what it's worth, my 05 Softtail makes a very angry noise if you shift into first before you're pretty much stopped. Had someone tell me once that it was normal and to just not do it. Since then I've made it a point to just shift down to neutral, then tap it into first, just before I drop my feet and stop.
Sounds like a clutch issue. These hydraulic clutches can be a bear. Check your work order and see if they bled the clutch line. I make a habbit of bleeding mine very season.
I forget what year they switched from DOT 5 to Dot 3, but if it's DOT 5, it needs to be changed more often, because of the hydrophilic nature of the silicone based fluids.
