Any experience with Eglide shorty antennae?
Has anyone used or had experience with the shorty antennae offered by Eglide Goodies?
Here is the link: http://www.eglidegoodies.com/id109.html
Does the short CB antennae work without playing with SWR?
Thanks

I bought the b15, the one that has the coil in it. Works pretty good but I have seen better deals since I bought and the quality was poor. I have seen guys on this forum recommend radio shack, I think you can find one for about half the price. I have the Classic so no experience with the cb.

Hey, save yourself some money. I saw a short antenna on a Street Glide in a dealership that I really liked, asked the sales person about it. He said all they do is wack about a third of the bottom of the stock one off and mount it back in the stock base. He said the shortened version works every bit as well as the full legth one. Makes sense, you ever see a car antenna as long as a HD bagger one?

Zanolli.....don't just cut off your CB antenna. Functioning will be poor and you'll probably burn out the finals on your CB. The antennas your asking about look good. J&M Audio also sells combo shorty antennas. J&M makes quality stuff.

Impedance matching
It's all about impedance matching - poor matching results in reflected energy, leading to poor performance and possible damage to the transmitter's power stage.
Check the manufacturer's specs - they should document the "return loss" or SWR rating of the antenna. The higher the return loss, the better the match, the better the antenna performs.

Same Deal
It would apply as well to AM/FM antennas, 'cept poor matching results in less energy being fed to the radio. End result: A lot less range.
I had a shorty and hated it. Though it looked nice, our 100KW FM station I usually tune to on Sunday rides faded away a lot faster, and it lost the multiplexed stereo sub carrier even in town.
Took it off and went back to the big whip - much better now.

My friend put the J&M shortys on his '06 EG Classic and said they helped his FM reception and were fine for CB. There is a thread on these; use the search function; all of those who bought them and installed them liked them--they ain't cheap at $40 each; but apparently they work well.

Trooper:
Are the antennas from J&M "rubber duckie" or rigids? Thanks for a reply.

Don't buy the rubber ones on ebay from cvette85, just got them, complete trash. I put them on, turned the radio on using acc. they sounded ok. started up the bike and went for a ride, holy crap, there is a horrible sound that comes on with RPMs and the range is awful. Wasted $28...

I just put the J&M's on. They better be good. They cost enough. Garage test is fine. If the weather warms up I'll give you a better report. There is a couple of different types on e-bay. One type is stiff (not the flexies). They have a series of twists at the bottom which would give them more total length. I e-mailed a couple of guys who bought they and they gave them a thumbs up. Cost is much less than J&M. Plug in Harley Davidson antenna in e-bay search. The seller had them in his e-bay store, not on regular e-bay.
