If I get the service manual

Will it show me how to replace my handlebars and install progressive shocks? At least, show how to remove them on an 04 RK Custom?

Manuals

I have found the maintenance manual very helpful. I have found the parts manual to be just as helpful as it shows blow-ups of the equipment that the maintenance manual does not - I would encourage you to get both. These are the same pubs the mechs use.

Yes (sortof). It'll tell you how to remove and install those parts. If you buy Progressive shocks, they usually come with an install sheet/manual as well. At least I would hope they do! Almost everything I have bought has at least come with a page or two (although some reference the manual for removal).

Get the manual(s), it will be the best $50+/- you spend on the bike.

And the most important part is the proper torque values for fasteners in that service guide for what you are doing.

thanks bro's. I just ordered it on Ebay and it's shipping today. I'm hoping to install my own bars and shocks. Plus, the scoot will be needing her 5k maintenance soon. The stealer is taking good money I could be spending on chrome!

Funny thing is...I have so many parts coming to me at work they think I am in the distribution business! I can't believe how much I have changed the bike since I got it and the OL thinks it is still stock! LMAO!

Lucky you Budking. My GF keeps laughing at me telling me I should have left the bike stock and at least rode it for the season before tearing it apart.
