I use this bike as a daily commuter as well as for touring, and recently added the TourPak and the Lowers. It is a very versatile machine and I am well pleased with it. I came to HD from BMW and have had no regrets.

I have a Clearview windshield on order. I went with the GT14 with the recurve and Adjustable vent. Unfortunately they are backed up so I still have several weeks to wait. (the stock 12" windshield is too short for me... I am 6' 3")

I was curious about your opinions and remarks about the vent. I have been considering modifying the order to replace the adjustable vent with Windjammer ports.

Have Clearview...really like it. I am also about 6'3". Have Corbin seat that keeps me sitting pretty straight.

Am able to look over shield. Keeps wind off me up to about 85 mph..over that I get a little turbulence.

Never thought about a vent.

Don't remember what size it was, so I took some pics.

I hope you are right. I recently bought a 03 RG that has SE 95" kit, heads, cyls, cams, hi-comp pistons, PC, SE A/C, Hooker Slip-ons... all installed by the dealer before the bike when on the showroom floor.

The original owner also bought the 7 year extended service for almost $1200.
Last week with 6300 miles, the starter would just spin without turning the engine. I wasn't happy but figure I would only be out the $50 deductable.

Wrong! They said that the extended service didn't cover it because of the non-stock parts. They recommended a high output starter and compression releases. I also had them replace all the fluids with SYN while it was in. The tab was over $1100. I did opt for the chrome version of the starter which added another $100 or so.

I will be reading the extended service contract to see if this is the case or if I need to beef it to the mo co.

Fortunately the SE heads were drilled and tapped for the compression releases... they unscrewed the plugs and screwed in the compression releases.

I really love the compression releases. A couple clicks extra in the starting routine but the engine spins like a top and fires right up. None of the bumping the starter BS.

Pete,

Did you go for the recurve option? I have a GT14 with the vent and recurve on order. I haven't heard much chatter about the recurve option.

I have pretty close to the same bike/equipment as you. Bought it from a guy who had all the stuff installed at Harley. He got an extended warranty, but Harley insurance wouldn't do it 'cause all the customizing stuff, so he got and aftermarket Co. to insure it. They would only insure it if the work was completed by MoCo immed. after purchase. The question I would think is: was the policy issued KNOWING this work was to be completed, OR even after completion. MoCo then had to know about it, unless the DEALER lied about it. Either way, I think you have some recourse...if you have the energy!!

I have the Clearview medium height W/S without the vent. the Clearview has much more rake that the stock HD W/S, I don't know how easy it would be to get to the vent since the W/S is so close to the top of the radio, plus I wonder if it would cause some wind noise at hi way speed.

I am 6'2" and the medium is just right, The original Medium was an inch taller and it was wider.

Just a sidenote, When I bought my '07

RG last July I asked John (at clearview) if he could recondition my W/S and for $15+ shipping, my W/S came back looking like new. Great service!

I have attached a pic from the side so you can see the rake of the shield.

Their website shows Medium as 1" taller than stock. When you say the original Medium, are you saying this is the one you have?

I'm 6'2" as well. Do you look through it or over it?

Clearview shields are a nice upgrade for these bikes. I am 6' and the small is perfect for me, allowing me to see over it but it cuts the wind great with no significant buffeting even up to higher speeds.

Never considered the vent, thought it was a little too goldwingish for me but to each his own.

What do you mean it won't fit an '03? what's up with that? The fairing and shield didn't change in "04, just the mounting bracket/angle. Why won't it fit the '03 and earlier? I was gonna spring for the part eventually, it does look real nice.

Haven't posted any pics lately, here's my baby. I have a fairing and side covers at the painters now getting matching paint. Here she is, Almost 50,000 miles on her, she has 97hp/107tq and I ride her in rain and snow and mud and lot's of gravel roads. She's no garage queen and is ridden hard all the time and just for good measure, I push her past 100mph virtually every time I ride her!

You guys need to look again. They have one for 04 & up and 03 and down. If they don't they will make you one. Very good people to deal with...

I got the 18" with recurve for my '03. I'm 6'4" with 40" sitting height and I always wear a helmet. I look just over the top most of the time but I do look through it cresting rises. There is distortion in that section of the shield but you get used to it pretty quick. Other than that it works great. No more vibrating head.

I was able to pick mine up at their plant in Pine Junction CO. John put the shield on for me. They also tried the new style shield to see what it would look like. I'd recommend against go that way for anyone with a '99-'03 model. It lays way back towards the rider, almost comes back to your head. And you absolutely cannot see through the shield at slow speeds in the parking lot. I guess that different angle on the faring really does make a difference.

I haul these around on occasion... That trailer is pretty darn cool for those couple of things I go to every year that just aren't the same if you don't camp. The OL on the other hand, I gotta haul her around all the time, can't get that bike out of the driveway without her wanting to go....
