I ride a bike cause i enjoy being in the wind.

When I don't want to be in the wind I take my car.

wydeglyde - I never want to take my car anywhere, that's why I ride a RG - all this and tunes too. This setup allows me to ride until there is snow on the road without having my face freeze from below.
I see we are from the same area so you understand the morning and evening temps around here although it has been great so far this year. I ride down to -10C without a problem after that I park it.

I looked into the Laminar Lip mentioned in this forum.

To be brief, I ordered one and should have it in a few days. I hope it is half as good as described by the testimonials. I doubt it will arrive in time... I am heading out Friday early for Ft Smith AR. It is my local HOG chapters Autumn Leaf ride. It would have made a nice test.

On another subject, my battery was beginning to show its age... 5.5 years old cranking a high compression engine with a high output starter. I wanted to improve starting a bit and ordered an Odessey PC925LMJ from TNR Technical on the 29th. It arrived today and was installed a few minutes later. It is a kick ass battery. With 925 cranking amps (for the first 5 seconds) it spins the engine like a top compared to the stock battery.

At $179.04 total cost it was a little more than a HD battery but it is a large improvement.

FYI, I use mine on the springer not as extension for the shield but as a foil to deflect the wind. Radio shack has extra die lock...if needed, plus it is white. I would think the "lip" will work much better with a fixed faring. Believe it or not, lowers will help with buffeting, but they are hard to fit on my bike.

I will be interested in your report. Ar. should be as pretty as the area i am in....I luv that neck of the woods.

I do know what you are saying about the temps

I rode mine into work this morning, Little bit cool, but very refreshing.

Yep - found it a bit refreshing as well this morning until I made to the city.
Once I get off the highway and into the city traffic I don't find it that bad either.

I am getting excited as the departure draws near... Friday early.
We have spotters in the area that have been reporting on the color changes of the leaves. It is ripe.

"Northwest/North Central – Fall foliage is changing quickly but is still not at peak in the northern one-third of Arkansas, from the Buffalo National River north to the Missouri border. Eureka Springs reports 75% color this week with many hardwoods starting to turn. Moderate color is being reported in Bentonville, Rogers, Springdale and Fayetteville with more changes expected during the next few days.

In the Harrison area, the famous maples on the Downtown Square and at Maplewood Cemetery usually change early and they are almost at peak today. Blackgum and sassafras are bright red and other understory foliage is also nearing peak. Arkansas 392 and Ark. 397, looping south of Harrison from Scenic 7 Byway to its intersection with U.S. 62/412 has good color today. Oaks, hickories, and other varieties in the Ozark National Forest, from Harrison south on U.S. 65 and Scenic 7 Byway past Jasper and the Cliff House Inn, to around Pelsor are at 60% or more today; with more green, unchanged hardwoods from Pelsor to I-40.

On the Pig Trail (Ark. 23) foliage is also spotty but changing quickly, with more color starting in Madison County, and less south to I-40. Spotters in Bull Shoals and Mountain Home say there is moderate color, perhaps 65%. Further east, the Mountain View area has sumac turning bright red, but most of the Ozark National Forest is still green. Predicted peak of color: possibly as soon as November 5 into the weekend of November 7-9"

It's real pretty where I live. My property is full of and surrounded by Red Oak and Ash... The ash are in various shades of yellow and gold... the oaks are just beginning to change. I am looking forward to seeing an area that has a greater variety of trees.

How much better can it be?

Glove Box for Road Glides

I happen to have lowers on my Road Glide and while browsing the JP Cycles catalog, I noticed that they have lockable glove box doors for Ultras and Road Glides.

My lowers have no glove boxes and I cannot find them anywhere in the Harley P&A catalog.

Has anyone found glove boxes that work with Road Glide lowers?

BTW, your bike looks great. Lowers are on my wish list but $700 for them + boxes is too much to spend right now.

Thanks for the info Steve. Now, if I can only convince my wife that they would be an outstanding Christmas present!

Mustang Ultra Touring Regal Seat Review

Of course we need yet another post on seats! Just like we need more on windshields! And mufflers!

Unsatisfied with the stock seat on my '08 Road Glide, I started experimenting. First, I tried a stock seat from an Ultra Classic. That seat raised me about an inch and moved me forward about an inch, and was much more comfortable than the stock Road Glide seat. But not perfect. It felt a little "boney" during a long day on the road, but was good for a 500 mile day with sufficient stops. My wife enjoyed the extra room on the passenger portion of the seat, but thought that the foam was a bit thin at the end of the day.

So I bought a one-piece Mustang Ultra Touring Regal Seat from a forum member (thanks Ted!), having had great results with a Mustang seat on my Road King. This seat might be THE ONE.

The driver's portion of the seat is about 1/2 inch wider than the stock Ultra seat, and the passenger's portion is about 1/2 inch narrower. That helps the appearance quite a bit, and the buttons look classy.

The nose of the seat is about an inch shorter than the stock Ultra seat. Unfortunately, the Ultra seat left some rub marks on the console that I'll need to try to buff out. The length of the Mustang seat from the tip of the nose to the backrest slot is about two inches shorter than the stock Ultra seat.

Overall positioning of the rider seems to be about the same as the stock Ultra seat, which means that I am higher and more forward than the stock Road Glide seat. That's OK - after a couple of trips I didn't notice it much. That's the price you pay for giving your passenger a larger seating area.

Does this seat make my butt look big?

The Mustang doesn't provide as much lower back support as the stock Ultra seat, but more than the stock Road Glide seat. I think I will end up with a Mustang backrest to provide a little more support for long trips.

I'm eager to put some serious miles on this seat so that it conforms a bit more to my shape. The foam is much denser than the stock seat, and my previous experience with a Mustang seat was that it did a good job of "breaking in" after several hundred miles. But the stitching of the Mustang, vinyl covering, and overall appearance are superior to either of the stock seats. I think it's a "keeper".

Steve, here is an alternative to HD lowers http://www.hoggchopps.com/

I have a set on order for my '07 RG with the the glove boxes. He is
finishing up the RG glove boxes.

Has a special, $469 for the Hogg Chop lowers with glove boxes and painted to match your bike.

Owner lives in Texas and these boxes are designed to be used in the summer also.

I think that they look great...and beats the heck out of $900 for the HD units that have no vents are are not designed for summer use...that when I want them the most.

Dave,

I'd love to see some pictures after you get them installed. The pictures on their site just don't give me enough to go on. I don't have too much concern about heat where I live so that is not a big concern for me. I am interested in Hogg Chops. Please add to this thread when you get them on. Thanks.

Steve, will do. I am awaiting his phone call, they are supposed to be finishing up the RG boxes any time.

I live in Colorado, and we have a 3-4 week period in the summer where it's in the high 90s and the engine cooling is important to me.

Pastor john Im think your Harley back rest will work with the Mustang seat.
It did on my friends seat.
