I've got some nice 14" apehangers on my FLHRS. I love them, they are way more comfortable than the beach bars. I just rode it to Ohio-about 6-7 hours each way over a three day weekend (two long rides in three days plus a lot of riding the middle day) and I wasn't sore one bit. On the RK the 14" apes look like about 8-10" apes on say a Dyna glide because the clamp is so low on the RK. But to answer your other question, there are hundreds of aftermarket and HD bars that will fit. Most of them are cheap too, about $35-50, you can even get a custom set made for about $100 with your own dimensions, chromed. Look for a bar made with "dimples" if you want to have external wires, like stock. These have been "standard" for over 10 years. If you want to convert to internal wiring you don't need the dimples but you will need to have holes drilled where the wiring comes out of the controls and another hole drilled at the very middle (bottom) of the bar for the wires to pass down into the harness. The dimpled/external wiring R&R is relatively easy and will take a couple of hours or less. The internal route is a more time-consuming, expect to double the time to install.
My friend is in the same situation, 2005 FLHRS, and he does not like the bars. My suggestion is to a) sit on some other HD's at the dealership and/or friend's rides and get a feel for where you like the bars and b) sit on your bike and place your hands in your ideal position. Bars will have three critical measurements 1) width, width of the bar from end to end 2) Rise-rise from clamp to highest point and 3) Pullback-distance from end of bar to the point where that bar starts to bend (near the switch housing). Put your hands out in front of you with your eyes closed while sitting on a bike (its almost impossible to do the measurements alone) Now measure the distance your hands are apart, the height of your hands relative to the clamp and see what position they are in-straight, bent slightly, bent alot. Take all the measurements and start looking for a bar that comes very close. Usually you will find something in the ballpark if there is nothing even close do a search on the Net for handlebar benders-there are a few. I bought a J&P bar for my RK for about $50, for my Sporty I had to have one made and it was about $110 shipped-it was my own specs and I got it extremely close to what I wanted. The RK took about two hours but I also installed heated grips at the same time which probably added 45 minutes on. The Sporty was about 3-4 hours because I had to remove each wire's pin connector to run the wires through the bars, not hard but very time consuming. I also had to modify the Sportster bar a couple of times to get all the wires to go through.
I'm at work now but I will try to send a pic later this weekend.
Good Luck.
