It's one the H-D website, the Roadking should hold 5 gallons, I don't think that's changed at all for that model over the years......

Don't depend on that fuel gauge. They are known to be unreliable. I have 2004 Electra Glide now and same scenario as you have with your bike. By the way, if it's fuel injected, then there is no reserve.

I had same bike & it held 5 gallons according to H-D. Did I ever let it run out to test whether it held 5 or not? Nope.

When I first got my '04 Road King, I was kinda lost on a backroad and for miles there was no stores, homes, etc. as I was getting very low on gas. I watched the odometer go over 200 miles since last fillup and I kept the speed down to about 50 for best milage.

The "pucker factor" increased until I spotted a convienience store at an intersection where I topped off the 5 gallon tank with 5.1 gallons of gas.

I've gone almost 225mi, before putting 4.85 gals in. That's the closest I ever want to be to finding out if it truely holds 5 gallons.

At 170 miles, mine takes 4.3...........the most I have ever put in. I can't imagine going 225 @ my consistant 40 MPG.

That was a one-timer, ideal conditions, all highway, easy goin', no passenger or extra load. You know, wind at my back, all down hill For the most part though, I do usually get almost 200mi to the tank. Around 170mi I start looking for a fill-up. Sounds like we're all in the same ball-park.

The low fuel lights been coming on around 160-180miles. Since I don't trust the accuracy of the gauge/light, I tend to start looking ASAP (gone another 15mi though). Last fill up was 4.6gal.

In the 2002 FLT factory service manual it's:

Chapter 4 - Fuel System
4.1 Specifications
Fuel Tank Capacity Total 5.0 gallons; Reserve 0.9 gallons

Just so there's no confusion regarding the last 2 posts.
If the bike is FI there is no reserve, but it is still 5 gallons total.
