Post After market stero for RKC

I am looking to add some tunes to my rides.
What is the best stero system to buy for my RKC??
What about speakers? Are they needed?
What about assembly? Can I do it myself or is pro help needed?

My first post; and looking for/going to need lots of help!

well unless you but one of the aftermarket fairings for your RC so that you have a place for the standard head unit and speakers you are limited in your choices....

Personally....I chose to use a nice MP3 player and good earbuds....I use a Rio Nitrus....has a 1.5 gig drive it in...holds a little over 300 songs....has rechargable battery that last about 15-18 hours on a single charge.

I have a few buddies that have Eglides that have them too and plug them into their aux input to give them a whole day of listening with no repeats....beats taking up an entire saddle bag with electronics.....or your tour pak with a cd changer.

Thinking MP 3 as well

I was using a CD player with earplugs but was told it was illegal in the Province I do mos tof my riding.

So it looks like I need something that I can attach behind the windscreen.

Any RKC riders have something that works???

You've actually got a couple of choices. I'm trying to decide right now which way to go myself. You can hook up a pair of Rumble Road amplified speakers and run them off an mp3 player or get something like Ron's Road King Radio , (which I'm leaning toward), which has a CD receiver and speakers mounted in a specially made ABS enclosure that fits behind the windshield.

Check out these links for more info....

A friend of mine got a batwing fairing from a rally last year and it sounds fantastic on his 03 RKC. Rons radio was a good concept originally when I first got it but the sound is not all that great. I dont own any cassettes so i had to get a adapter for my mp3. My friends batwing has a cd mp3 format and 4 speakers. He paid $1200 for it and its detachable. If you like the batwing then I would highly recommend this one. It cranks and puts some cars to shame. He got it at americade in lake george. Ill see if he still has the contact information of him. He also since it was installed added 2 gauges to it. Rons radio cant have a cd player. I found it very hard to change the radio because of the position of the radio. You can also check out dragon fly's fairing. It only has 2 speakers but looks great. I had rons radio on my fatboy but you have to be very careful with the way the connection is for the antenne. It shorts out from the radio sleeve. a little tape near the area helps.
The other 2 options dont look that great. You want style along with sound quality. the stand alone speakers look like mickey mouse ears when on the bike. Dont ruin the look of your ride with any of them.

EvilTwin,

Ron's does have the CD player now, not cassette. Also, who in their right mind would want to spend $1200 for a stereo setup with the fairing ? For that kind of change, I'd just trade the bike in on an E-Glide or Ultra.

Exactly what I wound up doing. Got rid of Softail for EGS. The EGS has the fairing, integrated stereo controls ( big plus over other add-on fairings ), and hard bags. I looked seriously at handle bar solutions but in the end didn't think they were worth it.

I too also used a MP3 with earbuds but got tired of the patch cable flapping around and my ears would get tired after about 2 hrs.
