Where to install DFO on Road King

Ready to install my DFO. The instructions from Techlusion states to install it either under the right side cover or under the seat. Under the right side cover sure doesn't look like a good spot with all the crap (ECM etc) that's already there. From what I could see, under the seat just behind the gas tank in that little puka might be the best place.

Any and all comments on the best placement for it is appreciated!

ctharley - My DFO will be arriving soon and I have the same question. Let me know what works out for you. Behind the gas tank does seem like it would be a good spot, rather than behind the right side cover but I won't know till I start fiddling with it.

I installed mine on the left side under the side cover. Velcroed it to the cruise control box. Read somewhere the cubby hole behind tank may get to hot.

Under the left side cover there is plenty of room. Nice flat place to stick the velcro. And an easy route for the wires.

Guess under the left cover is the winner. I looked and it sure seems like the best place.

I decided to wait for the OEM connector before install. Just got it and it looks like it's going to be a pain in the *ss because the gas tank needs to be partially removed. Certainly more than the 15 minute install time they claim.

Every thread I read on this says its an easy install and the instructions are good. Can't say I agree with that, the instructions I got leave a lot to be desired. I remember seeing a DFO install in one of the magazines with excelent procedure and pics but don't remember which one. Anyone know how to find those instructions?

Thanks to everyone that has replied!

Installed mine a couple days ago on 05FLTRI. Installed it where the instructions say (right side) and it was tight getting the connectors pushed through the frame with all the other wires. Also was tricky getting the wires unplugged from the injectors with the tank only proped up. Runs better but still dialing it in.

Thanks slim jim. Did you follow instructions for partial removal of the tank (disconnecting all the crap and draining tank) or just unbolt and prop?

Just unbolted and propped up.But it requires small hands to reach the injector connectors

What's the difference between Michael Jackson and Casper?

One is pale and scares kids and the other is a friendly ghost

Put mine under the right side cover, no problem with it. The nice thing about the right side is it's easy to get to and adjust when the bike is on the jiffy stand, as opposed to the left side which is down when parked. Try and keep it away from any excessive heat.
