Road King Brake Squeal

I have a 2004 Road King and I get a lot of brake squeal with the rear brake only. The bike has 3000 miles on it (mostly highway) and I don't "ride the brake." Is this normal?

I've got a 00 Roadking and I guess I'm fortunate that mine don't make any noise. But if you do a search, you'll find plenty of company with the same problem and the resolution usually is new pads (aftermarket) which is made from materials other than stock.

You can also make sure the free play is adjusted correctly.

But I've also heard that the better brake pads are usually original equipment rather than aftermarket, (but I heard that from a dealer). Thanks, I'll do some more research prior to my first brake pad replacement.

http://www.lyndallracingbrakes.com/home.htm

Everyone swears by them. I will be replacing mine in a week or two with the "Z" pads. Lyndall guarantees that they won't squeak. Only time will tell.

good luck

My 2000 RK had brake squeal with factory pads.
On the front.

Replaced the front wheel and both rotors. Used polished rotors and new HD front pads. Worse squeal.

Bought Lyndall "Z" pads for the front. Did the break in that they tell you has to be completed.

Well.....they were quiet for a couple of days. But, have the squeal back, just not as bad.

I'm just living with it.

Now why would a Stealer tell you that?

The reason I got why my front brakes make noise is

"they ALL do that"

cant wait till I have to replace them.

Have a buddy who has the same problem with the rear brake. He tried everything from pads to dealer support, he was desperate, what he did to reduce the noise substantially (it did not eliminate) was to drill holes in the the rear rotor in a patern not disimilar to the front.

Anyone else ever do this?

Lyndall "Z" pads are the answer!!!!

I had the same problem on my '01 RK Classic and it was driving me NUTS! I went through 2 sets of stock HD pads as well as trying sanding the rotors, filing chamfers on the pad edges, etc.. It wasn't until I got 3 sets of Lyndall "Z" pads and installed them did I FINALLY get rid of the squealing.

I got mine from www.cyclespot.com. They cost $113.95 including shipping for 3 sets. I small price to pay for no more squeal.
