RustyG wants to know Dino or Syn?
Fuel injectors 2002 Road King

Talking to the local Guru and he said my Road King had injectors in it that were recalled because of poor performance at idle and low speeds.
He called the injectors "Brown band" and said they were replaced by "white band" which resolves the issues the brown one had.

27609-01 is the stock part number since superceeded by -A and now -B.

Questions:
1. What is the truth to this rumor?
2. Is the "-B" the white band injectors?
3. Will I need a retune if the new style injectors are installed?

One of the symptoms, erratic idle (+- 100 rpms) if left undisturbed is evident on my King.

Are you having an issue with the idle now? One problem that will occur is the wires to the injectors will break over time, mine dod this past summer on my 20 RK.. Engine would misfire, skip, etc... fairly east fix, cut the bad wire out and replace the connectors.

Haven't heard anything about an actual recall of the injectors and didn't find anything about it on the web.

The 2006 had the recall he's talking about, not the 2002. As stated, the 02 had a wiring harness recall.

Idle is a little eratic. Sitting at a light it will be at 1000 rpms, a minute later it is down to 900 or so. Blip the throttle and it's back to 1K. Not a big deal but was a known issue with certain older models. Low speed also is a bit erratic but not enougnh to worry about. Just thought I would verify his comments.

Good to know the issue is for 2006 not 2002. I did have wiring issues early on, resolved under warranty back in 2003 or so.

Thanks guys.

On my 02 ultra I have 92,000 on the original factory injectors. I have heard on the 06 when they went to the bigger throttle body and intake in TB all one piece. That is why the came out with a -06A injector.

Try running some injector cleaner through it. Never had a recall on my harness they did change the clips going to my front fender light. At 92k still running stock harness mater of fact as far as the motor only thing I did was up date to the SE cam plate after changing the original twice.

You might want to reevaluate who is working on your bike.

27609-01 is the original part number for the 2002 RK injectors.
That number has been updated to "-01A" and then to "-01B" so ther have been some issues there.

A change using the letter at the end can mean nothing more then a change in supplier and does not mean that there was a problem with the part. I know quite a few people that have had 02 though 05 with over 90K on them with out a problem. I work on bikes and have never had any one with them. Are you having problems with yours? If it not broke do not fix it ride it. This is the first time I have ever heard any one say there was a problem with them.

Here's another suggestion, put some Startron gas conditioner in and run it, that stuff is amazing.. expecially with today's corn juice added... I run it 2-3 times a year in my RK and car...have used it for years and nothing beats it

He never did say he had a problem just that someone was trying to sell him something he might not need.

With 170,000 miles on the bike I suspect they have seen better days.

Are you having a problem with the way it runs? IF not why change them but if it makes you feel better replace them.
