Want a Street Glide... Bear with me here
I've got a friend wanting my Electra Glide Ultra Classic..I am wanting to replace it with a new Street Glide. The only thing I can see myself doing to it is adding a detachable Tour-Pak.
But... I just noticed that the Electra Glide Classic is the same price. (-$100.00 even)
Suddenly I'm wondering if it wouldn't make sense to buy the EGC, change the Tour-Pak mounts to a quick release, buy the bag mounts without the guards, swap the front fender for a smoothie, and be money ahead.
Am I missing something? I know the Street Glide has the rear bag fillers and low antenna mount (easily added) and shorter rear shocks. What else is different?
Any and all feedback is appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom

Oh... And the fairing-mounted mirrors as opposed to the stalk-mounted mirrors. What else am I missing?

One other thing is the tail/brake lights which means a different rear fender.

You would be riding a less popular bike, hence the price dif.

There are MANY cosmetic differences between the e-glide and the Street Glide. It would cost you a ton of money to turn an eglide into a Street Glide if you changed everything. Just pulling the tourpak off doesn't make it look like a Street Glide. Go to the Harley website and study the pics. There are many differences you haven't thought of.

I'm not a fan of the two-tone paint. I much prefer the single colors of the Street Glide, actually I prefer the Road Glide Custom.

Had a Road Glide and now have the EG. I love the looks of the RG, but have become a fan of the batwing.

H-D has a hell of a marketing strategy, you can spend 18 grand for either one and then spend 1500 to strip your ElectraGlide down to a StreetGlige(different seat, detachable hardware, different bag guards, remove the bumpers replace floorboards with pegs(rear), change the mirrors the windshield etc etc,) or you can buy the StreetGlide for 18 grand buy the detachables, add the driving lights, add the bag rails etc for 1500 or so and make it an ElectraGlide..Only H-D can get away with that...lol I personally opt for the Classic/Ultra and remove the stuff I don't want and then I have some stuff to sell off to offset the expense of the stuff I want to change otherwise its all buy, buy, buy.

The bottom line is...what do you want to ride...I went from an Ultra to a RdKing...had one before and missed it bad...now the King you can tour it up or strip it down for a night on the town....you just got to ride what you want...with that said and I am spending your money I say buy one of each...dont laugh because some on here have one of each...and you couldnt give them a cage...

Problem is limited space. A few months ago I had five bikes in the garage. Right now I have three. My ultimate goal is one, but I can be happy with two.

IMO-The ultra is going to give you the most "bang for your buck." If you go that route, don't forget to add the 12 inch rear shocks to your list of goodies.

If you want a SG get a SG, trust me will be far better off Financially .. Bought an Electra Glide Standard in 2008 thinking could upgrade here and there .. By the time got done would have been far cheaper to buy an Ultra Classic to begin with ..
