Yeah... You guys are slapping sense into me. When I saw the EGC with the Tour-Pak I got it into my feeble mind that the "free" Tour-Pak would be easy to make into a detachable and I could then concentrate on stripping extraneous chrome off and adding a few SG tidbits. But the more I see your posts here the more I see the flaws in my original thought process.

Vivid Black SG it is.

Thanks.

To each his (or her) own, and this is why Harley makes half a dozen different versions of the same bikes.

Keep the classic put the lower rear shocks on it and get a better pet.

I just can't see a reason to carry a Bear with you.

I think so... I just got home from a three-day-trip on the EG. Stereo and cruise are about as important to me any more as tires are. Love the EG, just hate all the chrome crap that HD bolts onto it.

I say get a Road Glide Custom instead of the Street Glide or a used CVO Road Glide to keep the bikes in the same price range. The Road Glide is just an amazing bike all around. Great for touring with the fixed fairing and also doesn't have the buffeting problem inherit with the batwing fairing.

But that's just my opinion. Why not buy what you want. That's really what I would do.

I sold a Road Glide two years ago. I thought I loved it until I rode a batwing bike. I can't go back now.

The RG looks awfully good, but the Batwing works amazingly well. Me? Well, I traded my Batwing for the RK and love the lack of the fairing.

I owned a 2010 Screamin Eagle Street Glide. I couldn't sell it fast enough. The buffeting was the worst thing I have ever experienced. I had to buy a shield I could baty see over to make it where I could stand my helmet feeling like it was going to be ripped off my head when interstate riding. That is nonexistent on any Road Glide. I loved the color schemes of the 2009 CVO Road Glide so I found one with only 6000 original miles and by far it has been the best Harley I have ever owned and I had had a few. I love Road Kings also, but a Glide tops that bike as well.

But... I just noticed that the Electra Glide Classic is the same price. (-$100.00 even)

Suddenly I'm wondering if it wouldn't make sense to buy the EGC, change the Tour-Pak mounts to a quick release, buy the bag mounts without the guards, swap the front fender for a smoothie, and be money ahead.

Am I missing something? I know the Street Glide has the rear bag fillers and low antenna mount (easily added) and shorter rear shocks. What else is different?

Any and all feedback is appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom

I went the opposite way. Started with a SG since I love the ride and comfort as well as the styling. Added the detachable chopped tour pack and rear floorboards.
