Cruise and ABS
I'm looking at buying a new decker next spring. A couple of options available are Cruise and ABS.
I don't do a lot of interstate riding although I will take the slab if necessary. Trips could be a couple of days to a week or more. Other than that it's local riding sometimes with the OL on the back.
What are the thoughts on the two options. Necessary? Nice to have? Something else to go wrong??

I would like cruise on mine so I could take my hand off the throttle sometimes while cruising. But it is a lot to pay for something you'll only use sometimes.

The next bike I buy will have both cruise control and ABS. I will no longer buy a new bike that doesn't have them. The ABS is for safety. The cruise control is to prevent "speed creep" and going faster than I really want to go. That is one reason why I won't buy a Dyna. I can't get cruise control on it.

Both my Harleys have had cruise control. I use it more than I thought I would, for both reasons stated above - to rest my right hand and to prevent speed creep. On the Road King I never switched it off and would frequently tap the "Set" switch on a straight piece of road. It's good for more than just the long haul trip down the great boring slab.
My current Ultra is the first bike I've ever ridden with ABS. I have yet to test it out and hope to never have to. Knowing it is there and will prevent lockup, especially since this bike is so much heavier than my last one, is nice for my peace of mind.

The cruise control is good for long runs, lets you rest your right arm.
The ABS is in my opinion a must on a 900 lb scooter. 1200 lbs two up with a little kit in the boxes. I've only had it kick in once, but it saved me from t-boning a distracted soccer mom. I hit the binders hard, planning to swerve after I pulled some speed off. But the scooter just came to a stop with room to spare.

ABS is a good safety option, and it will help with resale. It may even help with insurance.
As for Cruise, I thought I would never use cruise. I was from the Ol School of the thumb screw on the grip. When I got cruise on my first 1989 Ultra, i found it was much better than any thumb screw. And the cruise has improved over the years. Now with the TBW and no cables, the cruise is better than ever. I can set it and it will stay within 1 MPH of the set speed.
I have ABS and Cruise on my current '09 and will not get another without at least Cruise Control installed on any replacement in the future.

both options, in their own way, are life savers.
spend the extra cash and you'll be happy you did.
After riding with cruise you'll wonder how you ever did without it.
ABS is a bargin and pays for itself the very first time you need it!

My last two bikes have had cruise, but only the last one has ABS.
I would not be without cruise, and I have learned to really appreciate the ABS. It will definately help with rear tire skid and the subsequent possibility of a "High Side".

Another two thumbs up for both, you will appreciate the ABS and love the cruise control.

Can only comment on Cruise. On the back roads of Arkansas, I use the cruise for 50-60 mph it makes the ride ready smooth. I would like the ABS, I'm a big guy and this 1000 pound machine would be greatly improved with it. As I'm sure the later models that have it are.

I have cruise on my '07 Ultra and it's very useful on roads that I can maintain a set speed. Interstates are perfect for long rides.
Can't speak for ABS as my bike doesn't have it and I have no desire to get it. I prefer to use my riding skills over computer controlled braking. On other forums, there seems to be an issue with wheel bearings going bad with ABS equipped bikes. A bad wheel bearing doesn't sound good.

I have both. I have an 08 FLHX. I would not let the absence or the presence of either option stop me from getting a certain bike.

I will not buy a new bike with out ABS.
My 09 had it, my 12 has it and my 13 has it.
Would not let my wife buy a new bike with out ABS, her 11 has it.
My last three have had cruise too, I love it. Use it even on local day rides, even if just for a few minutes to rest the hand, or as other say to prevent speed creep.
If its going to rain, the wife will not ride her heritage, no abs, she will ride the Street glide as she feels she can safely stop in the rain with out sliding.

NO on ABS, Just MY Opinion.
If I want to lock-up front OR back brakes, that is what I Want To Do.
NEVER thought I would like OR Have Cruise on any bike...
WRONG....
I really like the +'s of the cruise on my 09 FLHR...Too many GOOD reasons to list here...
