Assuming the consumption remains constant, that's a half quart in 4,000 miles. I wouldn't get excited about that.

I always wonder if people check their oil by the book. That means: allow engine to idle for 2 minutes, then shut off and check the oil level.

4 oz could just be from different temps when checked. Maybe it was a bit overfilled from the start to.
Just keep your eye on it and check it the same each time. On my 11 King it took about 8000 miles before I could really tell how much it uses. Mine runs about 1 oz per 1000 miles, even now I still get a little variation.

4 oz is nothing to be concerned about, and no need to top off if it is slightly down. I'd ride it 3000 to 4000 miles, then check it. Or simply change it and start again. As mentioned, always check hot and after a couple minutes of ideling.

My 2010 96" Street Glide does not use any oil between changes? The last bike that I owned that used any oil was a 1972 FLH. It used a little oil between changes until I put valve seals in it. Personally, I don't think any newer bike should use oil between changes. I know some do, but I don't think they should.

Some oil gets used in the combustion process but it should be minimal. My oil gets changed every 3k and i see hardly any oil usage in between changes - maybe 1-2 oz.
