I would suggest not leaving until at least the end of February. lol

Seriously Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta, Northern BC, the Yukon, Alaska....well pretty much your whole route.... have weather similar to northern Michigan. Winter and August.
Having said that it's a trip most of us dream of but never do. Luckily I did get to fly in for a few days many years ago. It is quite spectacular. As Bajahog was hinting at 30 days is doable but tight.

Fresh rubber- if thats 02 twin cam- hope ur cam chain tensioners are in healthy condition or updated do not attempt to ride on ice trust me make sure ur battery is hd branded or oreillys-- a deka brand-- have you ever tried a heated vest? don't bite off more than u can chew as far as puting on miles in days,, take your time-- slow the f*** down, enjoy yourself- take crap tons of pictures- bring a tool kit, a tire repair kit, and if and when disaster stikes your good attitude is irreplaceable

Partner ...i was stationed at Fairbanks 02 to 05. The Alcan can be rough, planning is the key. Bugs bears bison badroads and distance between fuelstops. Riding in Canada and AK is great but frost heaves can be a real hazard. Enjoy the ride take more time imo !!

Have never been to Alaska, but a friend of mine rode the Hoka Hey, and I strongly suggest you go prepared. New tires, new cam chain tensioners, tire repair kit, and a ton of common sense. There is **** up there that will EAT YOU. Have fun....

I really don't think I would be traveling to Alaska from the east coast during the months of nov. and dec. As a matter of saftey, I don't think I would go before May/June.

From where you are at (east coast), how many miles are you going to be logging? 350 miles a day, in cold weather and short daylight hours, can be brutal day after day knowing you are on a time schedule. I wouldn't do it...to much snow and freezeing temps.

Well, gravel wouldn't be as big of an issue with a couple or few feet of snow over it!

I've always heard August is the best time to go. I was planning to take my wife to Alaska and thought about riding to Seattle (fly my wife there), then taking the ferry to Alaska, ride and go to the Arctic Circle, etc., then fly her home and I would ride back.

Milepost.com is a good reference

Alaska Trip

I ve done the trip to Alaska and the Artic Cricle. Best trip of my life !
The first thing you need is a book called "The Milepost". Get a current copy ! This is an atlas with all of the gas stations, campgrounds, motels, restaurants etc. You don't want to take this trip without it. Don't over pack but make sure you have good rain gear and extra change of clothes and shoes. I rode in the rain for three days at one point.

Here is my post:

This ride has never been on my bucket list...think it might well be now...only when I fully retire...I have a hard time getting out of the southeast on four day weekends...but then again there are no bad rides in this part of the country...
