Catalytic Converter 2010 Ultra Limited
Have a friend that just purchased a 2010 Ultra Limited. It has SE pipes but nothing else that we can tell. The thing is so hot at
the catalytic converter his girlfriend doesn't like to ride. We removed the lower fairings and it helped a little. If we remove the converter will he need a
retune?
Thanks!

will NOT need retuning. Dealers usually have many take off pipes that they will almost give you. I got a set and decated, used it on 2011 and now on my 12. Much cooler and cheap.
Im in sw ga. finally got some much needed rain.

sure wish you'd send some of the rain here! we haven't had rain since may and everything is on fire.

Yes it will need some tuning if you cut out the CATS The exhaust pipes are very free flow to make up for the restrictive CATS.

I think you will be happy. I have done several for employees of the dealership that i deal with. Service techs say the computer will compensate for the change if everything else is stock.
If you are looking for a place to ride in Oct. check out a rodeo that is near us . The website is www.deepsouthmotorcyclechallenge.com. Maybe we will see your there.

cat removal
My ride is a 2010 limited bought new. Cobra headpipes and tri-oval mufflers. No heat or no remap bike runs stronger than stock. 41/48 mpg. The 103 will out pull most 110 stockers. Best bike I have had.

Based on personal experience with my '11 Limited, I say you don't have to retune. The HD shop will most certainly TELL you need to retune to "avoid creating a lean condition". Do your research on the Delphi fuel injection system and you'll learn that those systmes will adjust themselves to hold the factory set air-fuel ratio. I
removed my header pipes, complete with catalytic insert and installed V&H Dresser Duals (no crossover connection) then I installed V&H Monster Rounds. The bike sounded great and ran great and got about 40-41 MPG on the highway, 1 up, running 70MPH.
While purchasing a tire at a dealer I'd never shopped at, I let the service manager talk me into the Stage 1 intake (OK, cheap enough) and the ECM retune download, also at a pretty reasonalbe price. So I said what the hell? I went for it. Now the bike still sounds great, still runs great but my mileage at 70MPH riding 1 up has gone down to 33-34 MPG consistently.
You choose. Personnaly, I wouldn't waste the money, knowing that the Dephi system can adapt to different intakes and exhuasts to a great extreme. Good luck!

Smokee, If I were you I'd look into getting the SEPST (Screaming Eagle Pro SuperTuner). With mine I've been able to make changes to my bike and then tune it myself...keeping my gas mileage and power more than acceptible. I chose this route over dynotuning. I know that a dynotune would probably do a better job...but I emphasize "probably". It would only be better if the tuner is good at his job...and there aren't many of those out there. The SEPST does a pretty good job of tuning once you get the hang of it and you can come close to approximating a dynotune...although you don't get to know what your torque/horsepower figures were...but my butt knows it's running good, and my wallet knows the fuel mileage is good. There are other similar products out there that do a good job also...like the TTS Mastertune or the PowerVision.

I don't care how you do it but when you pull a restriction wad the size of this thing out, you need some fuel. The stock exhaust pipes were freed up to make up for the Cat's restriction.

Get rid of the factory headers or find someone that can gut the CAT. I went with V & H header and 4 in SE pipes. Got rid of most of the heat in town.

Smokee....I've never heard of any engine in this class getting mileage that low. I believe something's way out of line. It must be spewing unburnt fuel out the back end. If so, your bike has the potential to run even better than it does now.....and will get better gas mileage too.

I have a 2012 EG Limited, I get better mpg in the city than doing 75 80 on the highway, you think 35 40 @ 75 80 is bad?
What would a stock bike 103 get? The dealer says 50, but I don't see it at 75 mph.
