Trip wants to know Dino or Syn?
Road King sways back and forth

My 99 RK sways back and forth going down the road around 50 MPH and up. It is like a gyro affect. I'll be going down the road and it will go to the left then right then left. Not extreme like it's going to take me off the road or anything. I put 95 10 spoke mags on it to do away with the wire wheels. It was OK for a long time and now it is doing the snake thing. I have been reading on here and I may need to get it aligned. Any suggestions?

If the alignment is off that will cause the bike to sway.

I had the cleveblocks replaced @83,000. Helped some but still sways. I run the Dunlop standard tires for the RK. They were put on @80,000. 5000 miles on them so I think they are OK. Dealer thought that too. Wheel bearings are new, I had them put in when I changed to the mag wheels. Rear brake rotor is good. New belt installed @76,000.

That is your problem. Dunlops suck. Get a set of Avons or Mettzlers. I run the Avons and I will guarantee if you change your problem with tracking will disappear.

Make sure your tire pressures are correct. An alignment wouldn't hurt.

Steering head bearings? Frame? Swing arm or tires are my best bets, though.

Ok again thanks for the info. I will take it all into account. I used to have a sporty that I put WWW Avons on and I did love them. Got to have WWW in the King. Doing searches now, any suggestions for a good deal on Avon WWW for the King? Ride Hard

Ditto on tire pressure ...3-5 pounds off is enough to be 10%-15% low and this will cause all kinds of weird stuff...especially at moderate to low speeds.
The other stuff might also be a problem, but I'd check tire pressure first.

I have to ask , is this a new road you rode on when this happened?.Some roads will have a crown that can make your bike feel like it's behaving on it's own.Just a thought.
