Road King For Softail Deluxe?

My local dealer, and sort of a friend of mine, has a 2007 Softail Deluxe with Stage One, quick detach w/s, bags, one year warranty, and 4500 miles on it. I have a 2007 Road King Classic with Stage One, Rinehart slip-ons, and 14,000 miles on it. He wants to trade me "even-up" for my Road King. He says Road Kings sell quicker in this area. I like the "looks" of the Softail, but now people tell me it's a "chick" bike. What do you guys think? Kelly Blue Book is about $100 difference in average retail. Here's a pic of the bike. Sorry, it's big. I don't know how to resize it.

Ride the Deluxe. I think you'll notice a difference!

Maybe if it was pink i might call it a chick bike! Other than that nope. Im a Heritage owner (pretty much the same as the Deluxe) and have been riding my paw- in- laws Road King for about a month now and the ride to me is not much differant. The RK does ride a lil smoother but not that much. Personaly i like the looks of the softails more. Good luck with your decision

Road King was my first big bike. The storage is so nice. Only way I would get something smaller if it was a 2nd or 3rd bike, for putzing around town. Put two jackets into small softail bags, and you ain't got much room left, add chaps or gloves, if you can.

Having a bike with storage, allows you to ride it more, with out strapping stuff all over. Both my bikes have tourpaks. I don't have to worry about going home and getting truck. Load it up groceries and beer or any other thing I need to get when running errands.

But if you like going home and getting your car, then don't get storage.

I ride a FXSTS I like the ride, but if you are into long huals the Road King is more likely to fit you, as far as the deal. It is a fair deal
And yes Baggers are selling better than softails pretty much everyplace now days

Baggers are nice just around town too. Though I think about getting a small bike some day. Around here you need to carry warm gear. Not to mention your out for a ride and you want to pick up beer.

I'd keep with the King if it were my decision. I think the bagger rides better and will more comfortable overall. If you bent on trading I've got a nice Heritage I'll trade you for your king

Talking

Both are my all time favorite Harleys. Maybe it's the white walls? LoL.
I picked the Deluxe because I have short legs. It fits like a glove and I love the in-the-bike sitting position. The king just didn't fit and felt top heavy. I'm 6 feet tall and could handle either but the Deluxe was effortless. Which one are you more comfortable on? Have you taken the Deluxe out for a ride? Try it if you haven't. They feel very different to me. Both are pretty much plush in their own way though.
Chick bike? Nobody's ever said that to my face. If you worry about such things and are insecure, keep the king.

Road king

I have had a Heritage. I have also rode my Mom's Deluxe when I was pumping up my motor. Hands down the Road King in my opinion. I am only 5'6" and to me the Deluxe felt too small.

A friend of mine was going back and forth between the 2 and he went with the Deluxe. With in 3 months, he wish he had picked the Road King. Another friend of mine was going through the same thing except with a Streetglide. He went with the Streetglide and has never looked back.

If you go for a long haul, you will feel better at the end of the day if you were riding a Road King. A deluxe, when set up right looks pretty Bad A$$! But still at the end of the day, the Road King for me.

I've had 2 Heritage softails, 2 Electra Glide Classics, 1 Ultra, 1 Road Glide, & my 2005 Road King Classic. I've always either sold a bike or traded in when I had the itch for a new one. The Road King I kept, when I got the new bike. This is one bike that I just can't give up! All the other bikes were great, but, this one is going to be in my garage for a long time! I love the look of the deluxe, but, my vote goes to the KING!

P.S.,
If you do decide to go with the Deluxe, you have to put dual fishtails on it! This bike was made for them!

The only reason why the Deluxe might be considered a "chick" bike would have to be it's low seating position. That is the main reason we bought one for my wife. I ride it from time to time and have fun doing do, but it is too low for me. I'm 6'3 so it might be just fine for you. Don't make a purchasing decision based on opinion. Ride it and see if it fits. A Harley is like a good boot, it has to fit the individual.

Good luck,
MM

I wouldn't trade my RK for a softtail...

Soft Tail Cole just don't sound right...

Seriously though, I wouldn't. There's a reason why they sell better and he wants to trade...
