Freedom Shields Windshield First Impression

I’ve had a Clearview Recurve windshield on my 09 Ultra Classic for the last nine months and it does as advertised but when I put a lower seat on recently I needed a lower windshield.

I was going to order another Clearview Recurve when I read several comments from other members about the freedom shields from www.freedomshields.net. I decided to give them a try and ordered a 9” with a light grey tint.

I am really impressed with the quality of this windshield. It’s 3/16” thick as opposed to 1/8” on my other windshield and the edges are highly polished. It has what they call an “air curve” and is slightly wider at the top. The craftsmanship is great and I really think this windshield is going to work out great. Also received it in several days as opposed to 2 1/2 months for my other windshield.

I talked to John from Freedom Shields today as I think I might need the 10" windshield instead and he was a great person to deal with and was very willing to work with me so that I will be happy with my purchase.

Wanted to give a quick update after using several months. I have since ordered a 9 1/2" clearview recurve windshield which I am currently using. While the quality of the freedom shield is excellent I have found the sides of the windshield to be too wide for my liking. Although I see over the Freedom windshield fine while going straight the sides get in my vision when leaning though curves and it bothers me, especially at night. I don't have this problem with the clearview recurve.

Just wanted to chime in about Freedom Shields. After reading about the various replacement windshields that my fellow riders had had experience with, I decided to buy one from Freedom Shields. My 05 Ultra has 45k on it and the stock shield had seen better days. Had I know before that the new shield would make such a difference over the stock one, I would have upgraded long ago.

I ordered a 10" light tint shield on a Monday, and was delivered to me on Thursday afternoon. Installed it, went for a ride and was pleasantly surprised by it's performance.
No more buffeting of my helmet visor, felt around and the air was being deflected well away from my head and the ride was quieter. In short, I like it...........

Material:
• Tough high impact strength acrylic resists scratching
• D.O.T. approved
• Crystal clear optical clarity
• UV protection - shield will not discolor or haze from the sun or weather
• Rain-X safe

What is high impact strength acrylic? Similar to Lexan? I had an acrylic windshield on my Electra Glide once, cracked a big chunk off. They look really cool.

No offers for the Road Glide...

Cool vid from national cycle...

I don't have an exact answer to your question but I purchased one and the cleaning instructions might give you a few hints:

1. Recommend Plexus or similar windshield/plastic cleaner.
2. You can also use the Original Rain-X Liquid on your shield

I read that RainX will harm "some" plastics. If you want to give him a call, the name is John Lauk and his phone number is 303-816-1615 (Mountian Time zone).

Material Question

Hello riders....

I just wanted to make a post about the material that we use...it is a very good strong grade of Acrylic. It will not shatter like the video shows. The Polycarbonate material will flex more than Acrylic, but the type that we use is very tough. The optical clarity is much better and you can use Rain-X on our shields, it will not hurt them at all. I will stand behind our shields if anyone has a problem, but I do not think anyone will have any problems.

Thanks, if anyone has any questions feel free to give me a call or e-mail.

I'm 5-7 with an 09 Ultra (not the stock seat but close to stock seat height) and bought the clear 10" shield from Freedom Shield. The top of the rim was directly in my line of site. I left the plastic on it during the test drive so Freedom Shield exchanged it without question. I went for broke the second time and choose the 8" (versus the 9") thinking it's probably going to blow air in my face - but I didn't want to risk it being in my direct line of sight. Good news! The wind just clears the top of my helmet. I've tested it up into the 80-85 mph range and it works great. Additionally, with the 8" shield, I selected the light gray tint instead of the clear. Note that the original HD shield may look clear but it isn't. You can see through the light gray tint fine and it looks much better on the bike than the clear. The darkness on the thick polished edge sort of gives it a two tone look.

Lastly, I like the thickness of it. I don't "scrub" bugs off my windshield but it's nice to push a litter harder than normal and not have to worry about flexing the windshield. My guess is that this windshield would probably break before it flexes.

As you can probably tell, I like the Freedom Shield. It looks good on the bike, deflects the wind and for the first time in 40 years, I'm not looking THROUGH a windshield. I never thought I'd go this route but now that I have, I'm never going back. Looking over the top opens up the view and makes for an "free" riding experience - yet no wind. The best of both worlds!

Freedom Windshields

I just wanted to let everyone know about these windshields. About 2 years ago I contact John Lauk at Freedom Shields to get a new windshield for my Street Glide, as a dealer John sent me one and I immediately installed it the day I received it. After a quick ride out on the highway at 70 miles an hour I could not believe how good it was, first thing I noticed was there was no distortion and the second thing was that the wind was no longer hitting me in the face it was blowing over my head and I am ridding a 7" light smoked shield. Once back to the shop I re-called John and asked about our company becoming a dealer for there windshields, John signed us up and we have been selling these windshields to our customers and never have we had one complaint or one return. Here is one comment we just received from a new customer on the brand new Road Glide shields.

Paul-- I finally had the chance to put some highway miles on my Roadglide today with the new screen. It works great. The annoying "flapping" of the original is gone, and it does a great job of creating a quiet area behind it. I'm quite pleased.

I bought my 8" dark smoked from Paul at P&D over a year ago and have been extremely happy with the quality and fit. And Paul is an excellent person to deal with.

6'2" and about 225lbs, I ride on a C&C Sport Touring seat which is about an inch and a half lower than the stock seat with a slight hunch..
