Should I replace the screws with rubber on the access cover to the filter? as long as they dont look damaged.
Is it necessary to replace the hose in the tank while changing the fuel filter?. I thought that all you had to replace was the fuel filter canister and the crimped hose clamp. Any knowledge from experience is greatly appreciated. I have been a auto mechanic for 35 years, but never change the filter on a 07 flht, just wanting to make sure i have all the right parts on hand when i go inside the tank.

Yes you should replace the screws with new ones (don't ask me how I know)

I replaced the hose just cause I figured If i'm gonna open it up I might as well replace everything.

I've never done fuel filter only, as I was replacing the entire assembly due to a bad fuel pump.

I thought it would be preventive maintence on the filter. so that i might not have to replace the pump later, i figured it was pretty pricy, also the manual says to replace it at 25,000 and now i have 31,000. , by the way how much was the pump. Thanks for the heads up

I did mine last month. It wasn't that hard. Yes you need to replace the screws, it isn't worth risking a leak in order to save a buck.

For those of you who don't have the crimpping pliers HD will sell you a set for about $70. I picked up a pair of end nips at Harbor Freight for $5 that did the job just fine.

The fuel canister kit comes with the hose so I don't know why anyone would choose not to use it. You will need one more crimp clamp though, I'm not sure why they give you the hose and only 2 clamps when you need 3 if you change the hose out.
