upgrading

I am on my happy way to upgrade to a RK Standard. Any good suggestions for good performance intake and exhaust combos? I really like riding up mountain passes and highways. I have heard good things about having the 103.

Go w/the 103" Big Bore kit w/cams, that are tailored to your riding style, and whether or not you want torque down low, or mid range, or the high range...
I went w/the 103" b/c the police have used them for years on their bikes, and their bikes run all day long, so reliability was the key for me.

Rode the mountains last week 2 up. Total rider weight me and passenger was 385 lbs. '02 Heritage with stage 1 carbed bike pulled great no power issues at all. You should try it stock or stage 1. If you ain't happy, change it. If you are...

That's the right anwer.

Most of us eventually want more power. I like to plan for that eventuallity by making affordable upgrade choices that will allow for more upgrades later -- such as buying a versatile tuning module like the Power Commander, and pipes with interchangeable baffles. That way you're not buying things 2 or more times over.

I have the 2007 FLHR RK with the 103 SE stage 1 engine - Thundermax 2 Tuner, and Truedual Rineharts - v. happy with these showing 102 foot pounds of torque and 82 HP at the rear wheel.
Apart from heat issues of the 2007 model - more with the larger engine (even with the Th'max with the open cycle O2 sensors) I wouldn't change - plenty of guts, acceleration and noise!
