Crank Problems??? I must have missed something. I had an 07 SG and now a 2010 Ultra Limited. The SG had 29K on the clock and was bumped to 103CI. No problems.

The crank problem can be fixed if you encounter a problem. As long as you run it stock(crap shoot),you might not ever have a problem!!! The 07 & 10 have the same cranks (4.375 stroke)96ci,as far as I know!!!

I don't believe they made any changes in the crank. I think when they went with the throttle by wire and throttle progressivity in 08 they were on the road to handling the issue. This gave the Moco control on how much throttle you got at a given rpm vs throttle position. If your at 2,000 rpm and twist the throttle open to 100% your only going to get 69% throttle opening until you reach 2,500 rpm, then you will get 99% opening. I believe this went a long way towards keeping the people who are riding the heavy bikes from treating it like they were riding a lawn tractor. If I was buying a new bike I'd look for a new 09. I bought a 2010 Triglide and regret it, the damn thing is like riding a toaster oven. Now all the 2010 touring line come with catalytic converters along with different O2 sensors in their head pipes. If I was buying a 10 I'd be planing on ditching the factory exhaust and tuning it. I'm stuck with the head pipes on my Triglide until the after market catches up.

I have an '07 and I have seen figures of less than 5% of the '07's having flywheel issues. I'll take those odds. If I was going to trade my '07 Streetglide for "improvements" it wouldn't be about the engine, it's the same. My tranny is fine, no IDS, so I don't think the helical gears in the '10 tranny offer me anything. The brakes are better on the new ones, the rear tire is fatter, and the frame and swingarm are stiffer. The frame also makes the bike feel fatter and higher. This is an issue for shorter legged guys. Some guys will tell you the electronic throttle is an improvement. You have to lube a cable, if you do they are virtually trouble free. You don't have to lube the sensor, wire and motor controlling your throttle on the '10's but they sometimes act up, most don't. Yeah the new throttle is about flywheel shifting.

MSOCKO3 already hit this but the 2010's have the converter in the headpipe, a smaller bike may not run as hot as our Tri's but you will still end up with an under powered bike and not be able to take full advantage of any of the standard mods because of that stuffed up head pipe.

Crap shoot ??? The 07 redesigned forged crank has been out now going on 4 years and has proven itself to be a solid platform on hundreds of thousands of bikes sold world wide. In 2008 HD changed the 2003 bearing part #24604-00D to part #24605-07 (black lefty bearing), stock for left side in 2008-2009, and comes stock for both the right and left sides for 2010.
The black lefty bearing part # 24605-07 is the same bearing part # 24604-00D, except bearing #24605-07 has a thicker heat treated casing.
If is felt by some that HD went to the heat treated bearing inorder to better quaiify the potental of the new crank, and not a response to design flaw.

This is new to me.I wasn't aware of such changes. So I guess this means these bearings are getting stronger???Are these bearings comparable to Temken bearings??

Run your 07 if you love it like you say, your looking at 10k out of pocket to make the change so even if you have problems ,and thats unlikely, you're way ahead of the game to fix any issues that may occur. If you want a reason to get the 2010 .... well I can't think of anything i'd pay 10k for on a '10.

My '08 Ultra has 38,000 miles on it. The only crank problem was my ex-wife.

Definitely go with a new 2009 instead of a 2010 if you can find one. I am glad I did rather than wait the one month for the 2010s to come out. The only thing better on the 2010 is the helical cut 5th gear, which cuts down on some of the whining noise.
But the exhaust changes suck, and no option for spoke wheels.
