Electraglide and GPS

Hi. 2009 Electraglide Ultra Classic, how do I intergrate Tom Tom Rider 2 GPS into the audio system, is there a dongle or an adaptor lead, don`t want to buy the Harley/Garmin system. Your views will be much appreciated.

IMHO touring with a GPS is the only way to go. I have a ZUMO 550 and love it. I found it rather difficult riding down the road and trying to read a map.

I am not sure on the EG but I would think that the audio jack output on the GPS (same as a MP3 could plug into the input jack in your EG radio system. I believe they had a MP3 input. Then when your GPS gives you directions it will play through the radios audio?? I did something sinilar through the J&M CB system using a Garmin 450.

Problem with that is the GPS is all you're going to hear. You would need to buy a device to intigrate all your inputs to the single output so you can hear the other stuff too but it won't be the radio/cdplayer.

You could try a Mix it. Usual disclaimer except I'm not a user so I can't comment on it's effectiveness.

I bought the HD GPS and I am very satisfied with it. I bought it from a Harley dealer that sells HD stuff for 20% off and that brought it down to the standard price of of a Zumo 550. I also got the HD fairing mount and it looks like a factory installed option. I have it on an 08 Ultra. I have used it for 6 months on several trips out west, in the rain, and extreme heat, have lots of tunes downloaded in the mp3 part and it is well worth the money.

Gerg is correct...you'll have to set the radio to AUX to hear the GPS and then that's all you're going to hear. I have the following"

http://www.cyclegadgets.com/products/KT/

which allows you to listen to the radio/CD/Intercom until the GPS talks at which point it interrupts everything so that you can hear the GPS.

There's a number of options. I'd recommend giving them a call, tell them what you want to do and they'll point you in the right direction.

Downside...it's spendy and on the difficult side to install.

I have a Zumo 660 on my Ultra but I ran the audio out cable from the left handlebar into my fairing through the grommet where the handlebars eneter the fairing, crossed over inside the fairing and exited the right side of the fairing by the handlebar grommet and up to the HD audio jack on the radio. Works beautifully and its a clean install since there is no visible crossover of wires they are all hidden inside the fairing.

I have the Zumo 550 and if you set the stereo to AUX you will hear voice directions AND you will also HEAR your MP3 's being played once you load them onto a SD card....more info at zumoforums .com

I like the approach from Bronxhog - I have been using the Zumo 450 (non Harley) on an FLHR where I listen to the MP3s on the AD card in the zumo and the GPS handles the intergrating of those towo items - plugging it into your AUX on radio will work great with MP3s you just will not be able to listen to am-fm radio at same time as GPS directions. Works for me.

Ordered FLHTK and will use that setup.
