Do I have to make my own "hand fairings" or what?

I actually got an email from the MoCo about "soft lowers" - like a wind screen of leather that affixes to the engine guard and blocks direct air going over your feet.

Nice idea!

If I could get something like that for my hands, but something that isn't the damn-able batwing, I would be like a pig in ... whatever pigs like to be in ... not a butcher's shop.

I see chinese food delivery boys with dirt-bike inspired hand guards, shovel-shaped pieces of plastic that bolt around the handlebars and offer a shield over the hand. I also see them with garbage bags bunched up over the grips - and sometimes, oven mitts.

Is there a classy version of that? Preferably something easily removable? (Think of the shame!)

I've tried heated gear but not had that much luck. Are Gerbin gloves what most people like?

I'm hoping some windbreaking gear for winter riding will help. I know, I know, <40 isn't that cold for some of you, but here in civilization where the roads are paved and we can go faster than 35mph, it gets cold

And while I'm at it, are the soft lowers any good? Figure I can just grab a bit of leather (and old jacket maybe) and get it on the engine guards. I'm sure tired of overpaying to get the damned logo on gear.

You could cut 2 liter pop bottle length wise. I sure enjoy my fairing though. Hands and everything else are sure warmer.

Seems desert dawgs are just foot protection - though they look good, and $120 seems better than the HD ones.

Can't beat clip + velcro for fasteners.

HEY!

I found THIS!

http://shop.nationalcycle.com/perl/cycle/N5541.html

The 09 should work on a '10, right? I'll call them

It's exactly what I was looking for - classy enough and looks functional.

So long, hippo's. I'll post back when I've tried them out.

Of course, anyone with any good/bad experiences should still tip me off to what's in my future

Thanks!

Back when I was younger, I used to ride all Winter through, as long as no snow was on the ground. I was perfectly comfortable using snowmobile mittens. Yes mittens; with attached fabric gauntlets that were mid forearm length. They are much warmer than gloves and you really don't need gloved fingers, you can do everything you want with mittens.

A lot less expensive than any of these solutions shown, so far.

I spent the last 2 years trying to find a G0%&@^! set of gloves that were both warm and waterproof. I haven't even gotten close. I'm on like 5 pairs and easily more than the $80 for hand deflectors I'm out. My last pair of gloves alone were $95. Still using them, but still unhappy with them.

I went by reviews, I went by word of mouth, and I got let down bigtime.

We can do the whole "glove" thing, and I'm (don't call me a fool for staying open minded) still looking for those perfect gloves and still happy to try a new pair...

But when it's cold *and* wet, my solution is just to pull over and change gloves. I imagine that sounds insane, but that's how I deal. I always meant to get hand deflectors. Today I learned they're called "hand deflectors" and I bought some. If they work how they should, I'll get a pair for my brother and a pair for my Volusia.

And you say MITTENS? MITTENS! Care to make a recommendation on waterproof ones? I'll try mittens. I'm hoping everything will work a bit better behind hand deflectors.

My next fool's errand was going to be Gerbin heated gloves.

Back in my 20's when I road year round, I also used snowmobile mittens. Worked pretty good. Can't make any recommendations cause that was over 30 years ago. But any of the big sporting chains like Hudson Trail or Cabelas probably carry a good selection.

I would imagine any shop that sells snowmobiles would have the gauntlet mittens. Mine, if memory serves, had leather palm and ripstop exterior (top and gauntlet portion). They were heavily insulated as any snowmobile mitten should be. Remember these suckers are supposed to keep a snowmobilers hands warm.
