06 electraglide ignition lock problem?
I too my bike to work today and when I got off tonight I couldn't get the key to unlock the ignition switch. I tried blowing in it with air, then a little WD 40 and finnaly got it unlocked. I tried locking it again like a idiot and the key got jamed inbetween the locked and unlocked position. I fought with it and finaly got it unlocked again. When I got home I removed the key lock assembly, blew it out and cleaned it,but it still does the same thing. The key works the other locks fine. If I tap on the key lightly when it jams it will free it up. The bike has 15K on it and the key and lock unit show no wear. Can I order a new lock assembly keyed the same?

There was a tech bulletin on this in 07 I think. MOCO did a customer satifaction fix on this. Just short of a recall. You may check w/ a dealer. Might be something posted on VTF.

Take it back to the dealer....There was a recall on the '06 ignition assembly. When I had my '06 I never had any problems with it but I had it replaced anyway.

Local dealer told me the recall involved the fork lock and had nothing to do with the key turning in the switch...they ran my VIN and said the 'fix' had already been performed on my bike...wanted to sell me a new switch for $100 and change...took the switch apart, cleaned it out real good, sprayed some White Lithium grease in it,re assembled and it works smooth as silk....

Did you actually take the lock apart and put the grease on the inside. I blew it out last night with 100psi air and sprayed a lubricant that dries and leaves a film with no luck. I took my bike to work again and took it back off and cleaned it again with contact cleaner. I ain't going to lock it to I get home. though just in case it get's jamed again. By the way, the saint's are lookin good!!!!!!!

I sprayed a NO residue Contact Cleaner into the lock while removed..top and bottom...let it dry for a few hours and sprayed the grease in the keyhole and from underneath while turning the key to both extremes.....it just may be you actually need a new switch...?....good luck...

If I pull the lock part off the key will turn OK. When I put it on then it jams. Something to do with it meshing with those cam rings just under the lock ass. Tried cleaning and greasin it,didn't do any good. As much as I hate some one else to work on my bike,I guess it's going to the Harley shop. Went on a over night trip last night, about 220 miles round trip and just cover it up with the alarm on by my room window.

I took it to the local Harley dealer and they said the recall had bee done already and the ignition switch was bad. 2 to 3 weeks for it to come in because of the key match. He talked like the lock and switch come together. Thats hard to beleive for $165 installed. I looked in my manual and you need a tool to disconnect the harness and another to line up the assembly.

Try a different dealer first. I had mine replaced and I did not buy the bike at that particular dealer.

I'm going to see if I can find the number of the guy I bought it from to see if he had the recall done.

Mine did exactly the same thing...worked smoothly when removed and jammed when installed...dealer wanted to sell me a new one for $100 and some change....new switch with new keys or switch keyed to my original keys was the same price....good luck

Any dealer can enter your VIN and tell you if the recall has been done...
