I thought Harley Owners had Cahoonies!

had to go pick up some stuff at my dealer this morning in Va. Beach. As I drive my big ole EG Classic down Va. Beach Blvd all lite up for safety and still I worry about these idiot cage drivers in this town. We have many older people in the biggest cars they can buy, or young Navy kids that do not think injury or death is even possible for them, or idiots on cell phones in a world to their own. As I am driving keeping a 360 degree look out I must have seen 4 little scooters with poor lighting, going 10 miles under the speed limit with probably very inexperienced drivers. One looked like a teen-aged girl. I thought to myself "Now those drivers have cahoonies! Or a death wish. Most the accident statistics in this are are young kids, mostly Navy driving their go fast bikes like they are the only ones on the road, but rarely hear of a scooter getting run over. Amazing and just an observation.

Damn those Navy personnel. Just think how great Va Beach would be if they closed Norfolk and Oceana.

In addition to my Harley and BMW, I have a 150cc two stroke Vespa. Just for fun I'll ride it to a Harley gathering and park it right up front. If I get any flack, I toss the keys to the big-mouth poser and invite him to take it for a spin. Playing in traffic on ten inch wheels with less than 10 HP in my opinion is the ultimate macho test.

Yea but there would go the local economy and who knows where my wife and I would be stationed. She is finishing up a 30yr career but out to sea right now. They have been really cracking down on Navy personel and bikes and trying to get these youngens to take safety courses, but you know how that goes.

I was just kidding in my last post. I've been in the navy for over 12 years now! The military and the Motorcycle Safety Foundation just designed a new course that is mandatory for all military presonnel who own sport bikes. Oddly enough, I believe its called the "Sport Bike Rider Safety Course". I have taken the Basic Rider Course about 10 years ago for free and hav since taken the Experienced Rider Course twice for free. I still cant believe the military pays me to ride my bike for a day or two!

Its an amazingly great deal and I don't understand why people would't want to take the course.

Dave

It has been said that God looks after puppies & drunks. And now apparently, mopeds have been added to the list.

That the Navy has now made it mandatory is a good thing and hopefully they will practice what is taught. Bad enough sending these young service people in to war and God bless them for it, but I hate seeing them possibly waist their life and possibly someone elses because they think its cool to go down I-264 doing a wheelie at 100mph at 5pm during heavy traffic and it happens all the time. One thing Va. Beach lacks big time is traffic enforcement but it sure seems to attract a lot of idiot drivers.

If you think it takes "cojones" to drive in Va. beach, try US19 in Florida! This road is NOTORIOUS for idiots (In FLORIDA??? NAWWWW!) and the DMV should give you a medal just for surviving 1 trip on it!!

No matter how much education is offered,or how many laws are dogooder establishment passes, there will always be youth, the inexperienced, retirees, and the sort that just doesn't care about anybody.Best one can do is learn to live with it,and keep your eyes wide open.

Exactly. The training is mandatory, but if there is no enforcement, they can basically ride how they want once they are outside the gates....
