Ultra Classic Windshields?
I did a quick search and didn't see anything on this, my apologies if this has been beaten to death already...
I just bought an 09 Ultra. Love the bike, but the windshield edge is right in my line of site. I hate it, it's gotta go.
I may buy a shorter shield at some point too, but for now I want a taller one. My wife doesn't like getting beat by the wind, she's hated my last couple of bikes and wind was part of it.
So...
For those of you who have tried extended screens, what do you think of them? Did you get the HD screen or an aftermarket?
Did your passenger have any comments?
Thanks!

I had the same problem with my '09. The edge was right in my line of sight. I know you are asking about taller shields but I think it's safer to be looking over rather than through. Looking through you'll lose visibility when it starts to rain. I went with a Clearview 10.5 inch with re-curve edge. Low enough to be looking over the shield. The air flow still goes over my head and my wife reports no turbulence.

I second the clearview...measure what ya got...get one an inch lower...and the recurve will take the wind right over you...Looks stock also..recurve is subtle and most dont even know it's there.

You are supposed to be looking over the windshield not thru it............for safety reasons. You want the top edge to be 2" below your eyes when in your normal riding position. The stock shield is 12", so it sounds like a 10" would be about right for you.
I've had a few Fast Aire windshields over the years and they are great, and affordable. They are normally around $30-$35 delivered.

Try Rifle Windshields( www.rifle.com). I ordered a stock replacement for my 09 Ultra only because I didn't like the optical distortion in looking through the stock windshield. It fit perfectly and the optics are great. They offer stock replacements or will make any height windshield you want.

The problem with any windshield is that they eventually get scratched. Even if they're curvey. Can't beat the price on the Fastaire. You can probably buy 4 Fastaire's for what HD wants for a 1 replacement.

Price was good but I didn't see any option for a re-curve. With the recurve you can lower the top of the shield 2 inches and have the same aero effect as the stock.

I put a 9" Halfmoon shield on mine. Great folks, pleasant to talk too and the windshield is great. Very good coverage and the wider design really helps the radio sound clearer at highway speeds. http://www.customflhtwindshields.net/

+1 for FastAire. I have a few different ones. The windshields are nothing more than a piece of Lexan. So many are overpriced but as stated above, the FastAire ones are very reasonably priced. Shipping is fast too.

That is their claim........but I didn't notice it doing crap when I had one. I like a normal 9" or 10" shield, so I went with their 8" with recurve. It put the wind right in my face and killed my ears, so it was taken off and sold down the river......and a 10" Fastaire put right on in it's place that works great.

I agree. I think they only kick the air up about an inch. Plus they are more narrow so you get more wind from the sides.
Excellent quality tho.

Cee Bailey's is another company that makes a very good quality windshield. Not cheap but much less prone to scratching.
I prefer to look thru the windshield. No safety problems involved for me and I ride a lot in the rain. Just my personal preference though based on getting hit in the face by rocks thrown up by passing cars over 50 years of riding. And it also gives the wife more wind protection at the helmet level.
Also be careful about measuring height. Some companies measure differently, ie, bottom of windshield vs mounting holes, etc.
I've also noticed that the HD windshields tend to be slightly distorted if looking thru them close to the top. That problem doesn't exist with the better ones like Clearview or Cee Bailey's.
