Tour Pack

A little advise please.

My mate and myself are...well lets put it this way, we eat well.

When riding 2 up, I am riding more forward on the saddle than when I ride solo.

Three options that I see...#1 Lose some damn weight, #2 Live with it, #3 move the Tour Pack back an inch or two.

Actually option #3 is what I need the advice on. Has anyone out there ever moved the pack back? Any suggestions?

Here is what another rider tried....

I think I can help you here. I picked this tip up from someone else on Biker Heaven Tech board a while back, and liked it so well I've actually done it to 4 Ultras and passed it on every time someone asked. That's what these boards are for - right? My wife (a bunch bigger than yours!) really claims she has a lot more comfort from the increased room.

Simply redrill the five mounting holes in your tour-pac 7/8 of an inch further forward, and remount it. Careful when you unbolt it as it tends to want to fall off the right side with the lid open. there's plenty of wire slack so you may only have to open the clamps inside the tour-pac and push them down again when done. I filled the old holes with silicon to seal them.

Whole project only takes 20 - 30 minutes. Have a vacuum with a hose handy to suck up the aluminum shavings from drilling the holes.

Why 7/8 inch? Don't really know except it makes the mounting to the rear bar nice and neat - may have to fabricate a small spacer there.

You wouldn't think 7/8 of an inch would make all that much difference - but the passengers all claim it really did.

After doing this then you can start figuring out a way to raise your passenger floorboards more than the stock adjustment allows for your 5'1" wife (just assuming her legs are pretty short) LOL

Or...I don't know why you couldn't remove the tour pak and drill holes in the tubular frame mount that are one inch (or seven eights) further back from the stock position. I suppose there might be some concern about structural integrity, but I can't imagine it would make that much difference.

Also, I don't know exactly how big you are, but I think if you're big enough, Richard Simmons will come to your house and help you lose weight .

Thanks

30 minutes to get more room??? That sounds a whole lot easier to handle than 6 months of Richard Simmons staying with me.

7/8" it is...tomorrow around here (eastern PA) it's finally getting up into the 70's, with NO RAIN. I think that's when I may tackle that project.

Thank you so much, I wasn't sure how successful it would be to move the pack with all of the engine vibration and the stability of the pack for the rider to rest against.

Regards,

Thanks a lot. Moving the pack back 7/8" worked great (amazing).

My butt fit into the seat pocket with the boss on-board. Road for a few hours...stopped and ate supper (should have moved it back 1 1/2"

Thanks again...worked well.
