Red Lined wants to know Dino or Syn?
Touring Bike without bags

I was wondering if anyone has customized their ride so that when you remove the hard saddle bags on your touring bike, it wouldn't look so ugly especially if you were going on a short ride and didn't need them.

I removed my hard bags a few times each year to have access to my rear wheel to do a good cleaning/inspection a few times during the riding season. Everytime I remove them, I think man this bike looks ugly without the bags on it. I got me to thinking if anyone has their touring bike set up so that when they remove their hard bags, it looks good? It would be pretty cool to be able to remove them if you didn't need them on a short ride and still have the bike look good and not like something was missing.

Would like to see any pics if this has been done before.

I had the bags off of my '09 Road Glide today because I was washing the bike. The bike is black and it has a solo saddle. While the bags were off, I stood back and looked at the bike from a couple of different angles.....I think it looked awesome without the bags. If there were a stealth way to support the mufflers, I'd run the bike without them around town.

I've seen it done right, and it looks real good. Takes chrome back there to make it.

Yes...I would be way cool to pull off the saddle bags and have something half way presentable.

I'd like to be able to pull the bags (and windshield) and have a presentable FLH. Would like to see FLH'ers who figured it out.

I wanted the same thing and went the other way... started with the bike and added on, instead of taking off. I bought a SuperGlide and got Boss detachable saddlebags, Sundowner seat, and HD detachable windshield. Mine looks good both ways whether the stuff is on or off.

I cannot confirm since I don't own a RoadKing, but think that (aside from pegs vs boards individual preference issues) I have to be close to the comfort of you guys with my addons ~ and it only takes me 10 minutes to strip it down to stock Dyna for intown riding.

God's aim looks like He's missing the target because we're too nearsighted to see what He is aiming at.

I'm not really sold on the bagless look, but to each their own. IMO a bagger just isn't a bagger without the bags.

I actually think my SG looks pretty good without the bags - well, other than the exhaust supports. Throw some chrome shocks on there and it would look even better. If your bike has the front/side bag guards they would have to be removed for sure.
Current bikes in the stable:

aldean that is a great look

but it sure needed the chrome shocks to make it look that good.

I don't think I could have gotten Progressive 440 shocks in chrome for my 03 Police. But chrome would be nice to have,
Rode the ALCAN and will try it again.

I found a set of chrome replacements for the rear at Eastern Performance for a very reasonable price.
