Unhappy Hit a dog not really happy

Well I let my cousin take my bike out for a spin and he hit a dog.

u wouldnt believe the damage it caused, First he's OK and lucky

didn't lay the bike down or get hurt.

Well he hit the dog on the right side and it bent the front fender,

crash bar, and were the C/B mounts to the frame is bent.

the handle bar's are bent as well, and I am pretty sure

that some of the trim around the faring is messed up to.

know aim going throw the whole insurance claim process.

I am having a little problem with getting a clear answer on the

frame? one side is saying that the part that's bent is not structural

and the other says any damage to the frame is a complete

replacement?

if anyone out there has had any experience with this kinda

situation let me know what you did would ya?

thanks

I know from working with insurance company's that if the top crash bar mount is bent that is frame damage and yes that calls for a frame replacement. So more than likely your bike is totaled. Who are the insurance company's? I've seen bikes fall over on the stand and be totaled. Sorry to be the one to tell you this.

I made contact with a wolf in 2004. $2,200 USD worth of damage. My crashbars were bent also, but no frame replacement. Good as new after the repairs.

I witnessed a guy go down hard on a dog hit many years ago, I was just 10 or 12 and rember the crash and that he was hurt bad. They can sure play havoc with a motorcycle, car too for that matter.

Yeah, Freekin dogs...Love em to death - but NOT while I'm on the scoot...
Had a close encounter back in 77...ridin with a permit - no license...'bout 2 blocks from home...
Critter came out from behind a car as I was accelerating up a hill...
He tried to stop - I didn't...I ran over his from legs & somehow missed his snout...
Got the scoot home - no damage, but a whole herd of kids comes up the street & one of em yells "That's the bike that ran over Scruffy!" I'm like "calm down" & offer to walk down to their house & talk to their Mom...She answers the door & I tell her why I'm there & I hope the dog's OK & she says..."Damn him! Next time kill him wouldja? I'm sick & tired of takin him to the Vet!"
Ya know, that little Mutha musta been half cat...
He had at LEAST 9 lives...
He chased me & chased me...
I trashed him once with a car door - got his a$$ goin faster than his front & he kinda high-sided himself!
I ran him headfirst into a fire hydrant...Boy did THAT fold him up!
Another time he was so intent on tryin to grab my boot he almost flattened himself on a car bumper, but at the last minute he managed to go vertical & landed on the trunk of the damn thing...
I can still hear his toenails tryin to dig into the paint!
Little frakker never learned...
Anyhoo, hope the scoot's OK & yer back in the saddle soonly!

If the frame is bent I'd do everything I could to get a replacement Harley frame, that is your best option. Even if the frame gets re-straightened it will never ride the same again. Plus when you bend steel one way and then back another you create a weakspot in it along with putting stress on the welds at the time of re-aligning it.

If you wnat the bike to ride great again, get a new frame. You can cut the head off of the frame with the serial numbers and harley will send you a new frame with matching serial numbers.

Get a new frame !!!!!

Unhappy

Generally, if an insurance company decides that a vehicle is totalled, they give you a check and take possession of the vehicle and you buy another one. I don't think an insurance company will pay for a complete frame replacemant. That's my understanding anyway.

Wishing you the best of luck,

John

I had extensive damage on an 02 Ultra. I was told if the if the top tab where the engine guards mount is bent, cracked paint, etc. the frame is considered bent and must be replaced. This is a MOCO reccomendation. Not many insurance companies will go against the mfg. The frame was like $1800 @ that time + about $2500 in labor. An then with all the wires and everything, I doubt it would have gone back together right. In the end, it was totaled.
If its totaled, you may be able to buy it from the insurance co. but I'm sure they'll want a pretty penny. My insurance co. let me keep all the accessories and chrome that wasn't damaged and they weren't paying for as long as there weren't missing parts like the derby cover. I had all the oem parts, so I was able to salvage alot of chrome that would go onto my new one.
Was the dog licensed? If so, the owner could be held liable or the insurance co. could go after the owner.
Glad your cousin wasn't hurt. Sorry about the bike.
