Question motolights or HD passing lights for a 2009 Street glide ! What is your opinion???

Hey guys, soon I will be adding more lights to my new bike, I want to slowly get it ready for a long 2500 miles trip this Spring.
To be honest, I am not crazy about either of them, but which one is less ugly? Or which one will give me a greater increase safety and visibility at night/day ??
Thanks for the imput and any photos that you may have.
David

20538 will become famous soon enough
I went through the same dilemma with my 08' Street Glide. I also was considering the smaller bullet aux lamps, I can't remember the company's name. I went with the HD aux lamps, as I didn't like the looks of the moto lights, although I'm sure they're superior.

From what I've read, the Motolights are good for making your bike more conspicuous to cagers in the daytime, but I think the HD running lights put more useful light on the road at night because they're mounted higher. This matters especially when your bike is leaned over in corners.

The motolights are brighter and have a much wider beam so not only is your sight longer but lights up more of the sides of the roads as well.

the motolights presented the theory of the triangulation of light in order to be seen.
I read about this 6 years ago and had them put on a BMW at a show on NM. Since then I have had two other sets on bikes...they work according to people who have been in front of me. I would have put them on my springer had the mototlight people been more responsive to my inquiries. Instead, I put a set of the HD fog lamps on some mustache bars and they do the same visability thing plus less expensive and more in line with the look of the bike. The motolight people do honor the lifetime guarantee of their bulbs. I am very satisfied with the look and the function of the fog lamps.

I installed the HD fog lights on my 09 SG and am glad I did. It definitely gave me more light when operating at low beam, great coverage on the sides on the road and some increased lighting ahead. Here is what they look on the engine guard.

Smile Chrome Motolights

Chrome blemished Motolights, Internet Special, $350.00 plus shipping. I bought the 50 watt bulbs. Can't even see the blemish.
Still expensive, but might save your life.

Intergrate nicely with the front fork.

If you want to use the accessory switch, get the FL harness too.

There is no comparison, Motolights. The night time visibility is amazing. (I live in deer country)

I also did the H-D foglights on my 04 FLHT. They throw a bunch of light out in front & to the sides. Plus, I like the mounting location on the crash bars... I leave ALL of the lights on while riding in the daylight to help all of the blind car drivers see me better.

I have the Moto Lights on my '03 FXD. They are very bright and I credit them with stopping a doe from jumping out in front of me last week. She looked at the lights and turned away.

I keep them on all the time for visibility. The 3-points of light are an important safety factor.

Here's something to consider. The Moto Lights are 35 watts each, while the HD lights on the crash bar are 50 watts each. You get more light out front from fewer watts with the Moto Lights.

A friend blew the stator on his Heritage a few weeks after adding the HD lights. I think he had them on as well as the headlight and passing lamps. Add it up. The load gets too close to the 350 watt capacity of the alternator. (I think the newer touring bikes have a 50 amp stator instead of 30 amps, i.e. 600 watts.)

The Motolights (w/ 50 watt bulbs) are superior to the HD passing lamps based on my comparison when my '04 EG had both. My test wasn't very scientific--just rode at night and would ride with one or the other and notice which provided more light. The Motolights are only a tad more expensive than the HD Custom Aux kit.

Also had HD Fog Lamps on the bike for 3+ years and only removed them when I added fairing lowers and installed the Motolights to replace the lost lighting. The fog lamps are the superior value at $135.00 IMO.
