4.5mm deepwell socket
Well, I am stumped. I need a 4.5mm 1/4" drive deep socket to reach into the backside of my fairing to adjust headlight aim. I have checked everywhere from Sears, Autozone and every other parts house that has a retail store and have been unsuccessful in finding one. Most parts guys just look at you and say "never heard of a 4.5 mm socket. Anybody got one and remember where you got it?

Sears has 'em but you can only get them online: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/search_10...ocket&sLevel=0
The pass through socket eliminates the need for deep sockets but depending on the depth you might need to use their ratchet.

Go to the Mc Master-Carr site and search on item number 7195A55 in the box on the left. 1/4" drive, 4.5mm, $5.88. Not sure about this exact item, but most of their sockets are made by Proto. Good quality.

Road Glide model headlights are adjusted from behind the fairing unlike all the other dresser models. Yes the manual indicates you need a 4.5mm socket to adujust the headlamps, I didn't have that size either but I was able to get by using a 3/16 deep well socket and I was very careful so not to round off the corners and used only my hand and not a ratchet. I will also try scoring a 4.5 mm socket sometime in the near furture (just wondering outload what the hell was H-D thinking on the sizing of this adjuster).....

like what tool it will take for the average person or tech to accomplish many of the simple task. Sooner or latter you'll find yourself looking for a whole variety of odd ball tools like a 4.5mm deep socket. Now does anyone know of another application for a 4.5mm deep socket on any other motorcycle? I doubt another application one exist for having to own one.
I've never hesitated to by the right tool for any job. But this time I just might pass and find a creative alternative.
Meanwhile McMaster-Carr definatly has an assortment of things you can simply not get easily. I found their selection or Torx end screw drivers wonderful as they have all those sizes you need for a Harley. So check them out if you go there for any reason.

I've been using the 3/16 6pt deep socket on mine with no problems. Have adjusted them more than once till I got them like I wanted. Mine turn easy so not much chance of rounding one off.

3/16" should work, there is only .010" difference.

I think NAPA has them. May not be in stock, but, I think they can get them. My buddy needed one and I think he got it through NAPA. Good luck.

When I had a Road Glide, I hated that bike. Now I find another reason not to like the R/G. I will stick to the bat wing, because I love my Ultra. Don't let the Goldwing guys hear that we would need a metric socket to work on a Harley, we will never live it down
