Shop Tuned My Bike w/ Exhaust Leak
Ok, so i really dont know if it makes THAT much of a difference or not but the dealer i bought my bike from DYNO-Tuned my bike with an exhaust leak..... basically the story...
I put Rinehart TD's and a Ness Stage 1 a/c on my bike. dealer scheduled the dyno tune and we were set.... i noticed on the way down to the dealer that i had a slight exhaust leak. as i got closer to the dealer, the leak was getting worse. when i dropped the bike i told the service manager that it had an exhaust leak... he says.. OK.... 4 hours later he calls me in and says bikes done.... i get on it and it still has an exhaust leak... only now, its BAD.... i asked him why they didnt fix it and he said they didnt have time.... so i said..... you dyno-tuned my bike with an exhaust leak?????
YUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I fixed it when i got home.... after i got a new flange nut since one of them fell off on the way home..... bike runs great... but man am i still PISSED....
What do i do????

their probe could not have been correct, so the tune cant be correct.
demand your money back and go somewhere else.

It was a dealer. They most likely don't know how to tune anyway.
1. Do a dyno run for baseline.
2. Look through their choices of maps that best match the description of your build.
3. Upload the map.
4. Do another dyno run for comparison.
Makes no difference to them if you have an exhaust leak.

Do as Claydbal suggested, get your $$$$ back and find another shop. Your tune is NOT correct if done with an exhaust leak. The un-equal back pressure will effect the overall setup. I can't give you any figures but would stand to reason, if you have a leak they should have fixed it before proceeding. OMG!!! Did he take time out to take your $$$$$.

HAHA Their idea of a of a dyno tune was most likely a standard download off your sert anyhow so of course it wouldn't make any difference to them. I hope you are smart enough to NEVER go back there! I wasn't....

Gee, if you werent in PA I would swear you went to the same place I did. Being like most dealers the odds of getting your money back is just about astronomical. Since you originally dealt with the service manager, the next best thing would be to go back and calmly sit down with the General Manager and explain the situation. No threats, no demands just calmly explain the before during and after.
How much time elapsed from taking the bike in till today? Sooner is always better. Did you get the replacement flange nut at same dealer, take that receipt with you. Did the service manager write up the exhaust leak?
If you were using a PC III DynoJet already has a map for your configuration, it is the same one I am using after I ditched the custom one my local dealer did, but that is a different story.
The nicer you are when dealing with the General Manager the further you will get, but dont be a push over either.

If you had a leak at the headpipe chances are you ended up with a slightly rich tune in some areas of the mapping, surprised they did not have decel pop issues.

Worst part about this whole thing is I know, and talk to the OWNER of the dealership almost daily....
I did explain the situation to him as well as my discontent with the tune job.... which he in turn told me they didnt really DYNO-tune the bike like i was told.... it was a download from a map they created using someone elses bike with the exact modifications i have.... they just did the dyno run to show me the difference.... like i couldnt have felt it.....

And he told you this with a straight face and felt there was no problem with this practice? Your good buddy th owner didn't have any problem taking the money for a custom dyno tune though, did he? That's fraud at the very least and he thinks that's ok? That's the problem with our world today, people have no conscience.

Exactly what I thought. No problem DOING that, providing they tell you up front and charge accordingly. $150 max.

From the sounds of this whole situation, it sounds like HD Main Office should be receiving a letter detailing the entire thing, because if they are doing it to you, they are doing it to MANY others. i will say that at least you didnt say the owner is a friend of yours because that is the type of friend we can all do without.
If the dealership is really pulling that kind of service to its customers, I would be telling all my friends about it so they are aware of the shoddy dealer practises.

Let me go back and say this... i was not aware what a "custom dyno tune" costs..... they only charged me $100 for the map load/tuning portion of the job.... i wasnt aware until i did a little digging on the forum that a custom map would have cost upwards of $300-400.... so i was charged accordingly i believe... i was mainly upset by the fact that the exhaust leak was not fixed before or even after the map had been loaded in the bike and prior to running it on a dyno....
This dealership has done a lot of good things for me... including giving me an excellent price on a 08 nightster for my wife... i didnt buy it, but none the less it was an excellent price....
