IDS on 07 Touring Bikes

Just about ready for a new tire so considering adding the IDS kit.
I have none of the whining or rattleling. Any of you had NONE of the symptoms and still added the IDS? If so, what were the results?
07 Ultra- 8000 miles

I had the typical issues with my 07, but the IDS took out low frequency vibrations in higher gears. The whole bike smoothed out. The whine however was not affected by the IDS add-on

I have a IDS on my 02 ultra with SE 6 speed, it definitely smooths things out.

The IDS will smooth out your ride more so than stock whether you gad some of the symtoms others had. The IDS ended my bikes clatter and the 5th gear whine also ended after installing the kit.Im not talking miles later. These bikes seem to be in several groups, one the kit fixes clatter, clatter and whine and has no effect on bikes noise.I would say the last is a very small group that is probably due to something else. Some owners are now posting that this IDS kit is getting them better tire life without changing of their riding style. This alone might pay for itself in a few yrs.If you can afford it then I would say go for the kit.It will smooth out your bike even more.

Thanks for the replies. Most seem to think it's a good idea. I called two dealers and both said "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
Still may do it tho.

pittguy
A guy on another forum got 8k out of his first tire, replaced with the same tire. Now at 11k, after IDS, and says the tire still looks great. If it truly reduces pulses that much it sort of makes sense to me.

Do it! I think it is the second best upgrade I have done after the 440 shocks.

That is my understanding, too. I think it's only made for '07 baggers.

I just ordered new Lyndall brake pads and an IDS from Jenni (20% off, Tri-County H-D, Ohio) and will have all that installed when I get my new E3s installed at my indy in a couple weeks. I hope the IDS is as good as most folks say it is.

Hi Trooper:
I just ordered it as well. Too many positive reports with or without the noises. I'm also going with E3s, but maybe not before the ride to Sturgis. Marginal.
Which map are you using now?

The 02 and later swing arm is the same as current. The rear wheel is also except for paint codes. The IDS uses a 66 tooth pulley instead of the 70 on pre 07s. To keep the final drive ratio close to the same you need to reduce the primary pulley from 32 teeth to 30. You will need to get a shorter and narrower belt and a speedo calibrator to get the mph dead on again.

The following is someone else's post which has all the part numbers needed to make the change.

( post by THEDRIVER

save $, get it all done

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got all my parts from ZANOTTI MOTORS, Baker 30 tooth # 30T-07 $115.00, 136 tooth belt # 40056-07 $169.00, also the IDS rear sprocket is a good idea to smooth out drive line # 40287-07 $ 197.00. and to correct speedo Dakota # 2210-0056 $ 92.40 because it will be off by 4.5 mph at 70 mph. all of the above was a HUGE savings about $ 230.00 worth. but you have to purchace on line to save. it is very easy. to check on orders you can call them. Patty i think ? 724-283-5419
good luck & enjoy. my $.02 worth)
