08 RK Classic throwin codes!!!

I recently installed a set of chubby 518s on my RK Classic. \\; Install went well and everything was fine until the damn chk engine light came on. \\; Cruise was disabled but after shutting down and re-starting it came back online. \\; Check engine light has since turned off but the diagnostics are showing codes P1510 - EFI Limited Performance Mode and P2138 - TGS Correlation Error (Twist grip sensor). \\;Just put 80 miles on it today and she seems to be running strong but i cant clear these codes? \\; Anybody have any ideas as to what the problem might be?
\\;
Your input is greatly appreciated

Jeffytune is reading this now saying WTF is this?
You need to pick up the Electrical repair manual to diagnose it correctly.

Try pushing the plugs into the sensor again. Sometimes they seem like they seat but don't. You might have to even push on the wire with a pliers to get them to seat.

You are getting the errors as a result of the drive by wire throttle, you will get these 2 codes when it is out of calibration. I just went through the same thing, after I reset the throttle calibration and cleared the codes the problem was solved.

This appears to be a common problem with the new electronic throttle setup.

This is a repost of the data from the Doof site

Here is the process for checking codes and resetting codes. It is followed by the recalibration procedure that is not posted verbatum, it is just from my experience resetting my throttle.

The codes that I had on my E Glide were 1510 limited perf mode and 2138 TGS Correlation Error (Twist grip sensor)

The IM (instrument module) is capable of displaying DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes).
Speedometer Self Diagnostics: The speedometer is capable of displaying and clearing speedometer, tachometer, TSM/TSSM and ICM/ECM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC).

1- Turn Ignition switch to OFF & Run/Stop switch is to Run.

2- Push odometer reset button in & hold.

3- Turn ignition switch to Ignition and release odometer reset button. Background lighting sould illuminate, speedometer needle should sweep its full range and indicator lamps (battery, security, low fuel, check engine and cruise) should illuminate. The word “diag” should then appear.

4 - Push the odometer reset button once and you will see the selection menu "PSSPt" with the first P flashing.

5 - Each letter represents an area of the diagnostics module. The module that is flashing is the one you are going to check. To move from one letter (module) to the next, you push the odometer reset button one time. (from P to S to SP to t and back to P, etc.)
P = ECM/ICM (Electronic Control Module [EFI] / Ignition Control Module [Carbureted])
S = TSM/TSSM (Turn Signal/ Turn Signal Security Module)
SP = speedometer
T = tachometer

6 - To get the DTC within an area of diagnostics, push and hold the odometer reset button in for 5 seconds and release. If there are any DTC’s the code will be displayed or the word “none” will appear if there are no DTC’s. Push the odometer reset button again to view additional codes if they exist.

7 - Record the codes.

8 - If DTC’s are not to be cleared, Press and release the odometer reset button. Part number of module will be displayed.
NOTE: To determine if a code is current or historic, clear the displayed code by pushing in and holding the odometer reset button ( longer than 5 seconds) until 'clear' comes up. Release the odometer reset button. Turn OFF the ignition switch. Run your bike and shut it down then recheck the DTC’s again by repeating steps 1 to 9. If the code is current it will reappear.

9 – Press and release the odometer reset button to continue to the next module.

10 – Turn Ignition switch to OFF.

On models not equipped with a tachometer "No Rsp" will appear when the tachometer identifier is selected.

"No Rsp" will also appear if the run/off switch is in the off position when doing this procedure.

To reset the 2138 error I made sure that the my throttle was loose (star tension wheel not partially engaged) and in the idle position. Per info I was able to locate you cycle the ignition 4 times, you must make sure that you wait 3 to 4 seconds during each ignition ON cycle. After the 4 ignition cycles you should start bike and verify that problem has cleared.

After problem has been cleared you can go back into the diag mode and clear out the diag codes. The codes would not clear as long as the ECM was reporting the 2138 code on mine, but they cleared after the throttle reset. Has been a couple of days since I reset my throttle and all is well.

All of this info was available ont he web, just took me a while to find both parts. I do not take credit for the info but hope that it might assist someone and save you the time of tracking it down.

I've had my check engine light come on for a few weeks. it started after turning on ignition to acc position to listen to radio while friend gasing up his bike. I did the check and found P1510 and P2138 codes. I just cleared them and will see how it goes when I go riding this Wednesday. busy next few days and tornado watch today. oh this is on a 2008 FLHX.

Ok, went riding over the weekend and no more engine light after clearing the codes. thanks v-twin forum again. The source of the problem wound up being the ECM plug lock wasn't locked in. once it was locked and making a good connection the problem was solved.
