04 1200C Tail luggage sissy bar height

2004 1200C that I purchased the HD detachable side plates and narrow luggage rack. I've been looking at several sissy bars with various heights and I'm not sure how tall the sissy bar should be to accomadate a after market tail luggage system (tail luggage review under "Accessories" @ www.motorcyclecruiser.com) that would be about 17 inches high. Is there a recommended height the sissy bar should be? I really don't want a really high sissy bar so the the minimum would be preferable.

By the way the detachable side plates could not be more easy to slip on and off. With a luggage rack and sissy bar the entire unit comes off with a flick of a lever on each side.

Upgrades: 2004 1200C with crash bar, moved front turn signals to lower fork, slow jet upgrade, SE air intake & SEII slip-ons.

I have both HD sissy bars, the 18" is just used for the luggage on trips and is fine. When I get back home, off comes the 18 and the shorter one goes on. The more verticle you go, the more support you have but the 18 is enough. When solo, I run the pack on the front of the sissy bar for back support and on a small quick detach rack on back when my wife goes with me.

Hey, want to get rid of your SEII baffles? I need some.

Thanks for the info. What size is your smaller sissy bar? I never thought about getting 2 bars.

I've never taken the baffles out to know if I'd like the sound. I do like the current sound with them in but will remove them and give it a try.

I believe it is 6" above the seat whereas the taller one is 12" I toyed with the idea of making a bar only for hauling the pack. ½x½ cold rolled, some benting, drill four holes and you have a bar as tall as you want.
