Changing RH shift to LH on 74 Sportster

A guy I work with bought a 74 that had the right side shift "converted" to to the left side. I haven't seen the bike yet but am wondering how it is done and if it is something that should have been done????

lv74-2004 is on a distinguished road
It should be a crime to do that. 74 was the last year for rh shift. amf rigged a goofy setup in 75 to switch to left which some change back .
It is a little strange to ride at first but after awhile You get to where You can go back and forth with no trouble.
sort of like having a car with auto and a truck with standard.
( I love my 74 xlch )

It seems that there was a kit available to make it a left side shift. The left side "pedal" is long and goes to the back of the tranny, crosses over, and hooks up somehow to the shift stud coming out of the tranny. I still haven't seen it yet but that is how it was described to me by the owner. I agree that is should be left as it was born but it's not mine. The owner told me the tank has been changed as well as the rear fender, pipes, bars, everything so it is very far from stock or any form of it. I will report back when I get a chance to look at it.
