spyglass wants to know Dino or Syn?
Question Touring windshield for XL

I have a Sporty & a Super Gld.....both have the late quick release (lever clamps to fork tubes) 18" windshields called Compact.....they seem more for looks than deflecting wind. What I'm wondering is, anyone here tried the Touring model....believe part # is 58158-08? None of the dealers in my area stock them.....would like to know if it's a noticable improvement over one I have before dropping $430.

Check out Memphis Shades. They sell diferent sizes of lexan that will fit your frame for about $100. I have thier Memphis Fats & Gaunlet 1/4 fairing for my FXR & I think thier stuff is way better than hd's stuff. Had problems with Road King windshield craking from bolt holes out. Bought 1 of thier replacment shields, got better quaility & the size that suited me. Just read the instuctions & clean it like they say I'll bet you're happy with thier product, least I am.

That windshield is 19" from the headlight opening to the top. I have part number 57802-11 which is $375. It is only 14 inches from opening to the top and also is the quick release. I love it on my XL1200C. I'm only 5' 7" and this shorter windshield is just perfect for me. I do not get any wind in my face and it serves the purpose of protecting my body from being a parachute. I get very little helmet buffeting and love the fact that I look over the top.

Keep in mind that a lot of the turbulence comes up from below the windshield, especially if you ride feet forward. Experiment with that a little before you decide.

Well, the extra 1" at the top is nice, but the main difference seems to be the width....the Touring model is 25" wide, the Compact not quite 20". Just picked one up on ebay for half new cost, so will see how it works & report. Kenny, I did check out the Memphis Shades site & if this HD isn't up to snuff, will maybe try one of theirs. Thx.

As an aside, I almost never ride feet fwd...have hiway pegs, only use for 30sec or so at a time, after riding an hour or so. I've never felt that to be a position to be in the best control should something require fast reaction.
