Personally, I would just use the Harley filter. No worries about using the wrong one that way.

SuperTech 3614 fits on the bike. But you don't want to use it, it's junk. Buy a K-N, Custom Chrome or Harley-Davidson filter (63805-80A is the correct filter), they are made for your bike and will filter it correctly. For less then the price of a tank of gaso you can buy a quality filter, they are cheap.

Not wanting to start a debate but the SuperTech 3614 is what I used and it worked great. The problem is Walmart does not carry them anymore. If anybody knows if they are restocking them please let me know. The 3614 was my go to filter for my craftsman 17hp tractor and Harleys but only came in black which was ok for me.

Considering how much even an expensive oil filter costs, I think the debate would be about buying a HD and shopping for parts at Wal-Mart (or even going to a Wal-Mart but I digress).

Wally-World used to carry Fram 3614 filters....Don't know if they still do or not, but that one would fit. I know a lot of folks will want to post up their opinions and research about Fram filters....all I can say is I bought them there, and ran'em on my last Evo motor until I replaced it (due to NON-oil issues) for 185,000 mi.
I was pretty religious about my oil change intervals.
Hope this helps.

I cut 3 brands of filter open and had a look see. I assure you the WalMart is shocking junk. It is toy like. Fram gets beat to hell by many, I use them on my pickup and will keep using them.

Yes I hate going to wal-mart but i have one two-minutes from me verse 30 miles to the closest dealer. The super-tech 3614 filter was great and american made by Champion Labs. Champion was under bid to another company. Thats why Wal-mart no longer stocks them. I am hoping they win the contract back.

There is nothing great about that filter, shameful excuse for a filter.

Does anyone know what PSI the filter bypass releases? I think it is much lower then our normal oil pressure runs at. If that is the case what would the quality of the filtration system even matter at that point? The filter acts as a high flow channel not a filter if I understand filters correctly. I guess my argument is that if the filter is always in bypass how can it filter? Ready to be flamed.

You are somewhat correct...unless you force 100% filtration, the filter debate is really kind of moot. I use a lifetime filter on my bikes, not because they are any better than another brand...I just don't have to go looking for a filter any longer. Cleaning them is not a big chore in the grand scheme of things...I'm already pulling it off anyway for oil changes.

Just because it is made by a US company doesn't mean squat. The problem has been the specs the company is willing to accept from the Chinese. Question is what the spec is and not where it is made. If this company wins back a contract, are you sure it will be a superior filter? Could they have lowered manufacturing just to compete and thus give you a crap product?
