Octane for your Sportster....

I have few question for you..
...what kind of fuel you use for your Sportster 89, 91, 95, 98 or 100 octane,....did you experiment with this fuel, like, more mileage you can reach, better performance with bigger octane, etc...
...also I'm interest for Sportster fuel consumption L/100km or gal/mile for town and highway at
75 mile/h....
...I'm asking that, because we have some debate on one local forum, so I'm very interest for your experience.....

...BTW I'm would like to know petrol price in USA per gallon or liter. Here in CRO, 95 octane is 1Gal= 6.83 $ or 1L=1.80$

Well for my Nightster it calls for 91 or higher octane in the owner's manual. My local gas station has 93, so that's what I use. Though, if I'm not mistaken, I think US octane ratings are different than Europe's?

So far I've been getting roughly 50mpg with a mixture of both town and highway riding.

I just filled up today at $3.89 a gallon for 93 octane.

Only the XR 1200 needs 98, price in Belgium: 1,60 €
All standard Sportsters run well on Eurosuper 95, price in Belgium: 1,57 €

If my bike doesn't get the highest octane gas, it pings like crazy.

Seems to run best on Citgo.

My 06 1200c, stage 1, carb'ed, always ran better on 87 oct. Something about the timing advace was not right with the higher oct. And I got about 50 MPG.

No I am saying that I think my bike runs better with the 89 octane gas with up to 10% ethanol compared to the 91 octane ethanol free gas I have been putting in it

Use the lowest octane that will not cause the engine to ping. Octane is just an anti ping additive, buy only what you need.

octane for your Sportster

I run the highest octane I can find in California and I add Harley Davidson's octain booster as well. Alcohol added to gasoline drops the BTUs so our fuel needs all the help it can get. The octane booster makes a big improvement in acceleration, and top end torque on the highway as well as drivability in town over the gas straight out of the pump. I like the improvement that the booster makes so much, I won't run without it. The octane booster is one of several performance enhansers that help my Nightster run like it was originally intended to run by the factory before California's smog restrictions killed the performance. Low octane fuel is fine for point A to point B riding, I guess.
