05 1200 Will not shift out of 1st (Help)

I'm new here thanks for having me. My wife laid her 05 1200 over there is no damage to the forward controls and the shift lever and linkage moves freely. There is some minor scratches on the primary and durby cover but not bad. The bike will shift into first and back to neutral but won't go up past neutral. I've already started pulling the primary cover off but haven't figured out how to disconnect the clutch cable from the clutch yet. If anyones has done this and has some advice I would greatly appreciate it. Also does anyone have an idea on what I need to look for or expect after I get this cover off. Again any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome

Welcome to the forum. I strongly suggest that you purchase the factory shop manual from Harley. I'm not sure about the cable arrangement on the 05...but there should be a piece on the lower end that hooks into the release mechanism, once you slacken the cable you should be able to push it into the mating piece it's latched to, push it to the side and unhook it. There may be running changes to the design, thus the importance of the manual.
Check for damage to the linkage and shift drum.
