08 xl custom mini ape installation

I have an 08 sportster custom and i want to put on mini apes, I took it to the dealer and they said i had to swap out the riser, speedometer, as well as the clutch/throttle cables and brake line that i expected to change. Do i really need to replace the riser and speedometer? It was $600 in parts alone from hd. Has anyone done this mod? advice would be appreciated.

I changed my stock bars to 12" apes with internal wiring. I modified the riser so that everything flows well together.

You don't need to change anything but the wiring. I did mine on my '06 and it did require longer throttle, clutch and brake lines, but I wanted stainless steel lines anyways, so I did them at this time. I didn't need to change the risers and speedo, though I could see how it could look better with different risers.

Here is a pic of my '06 XL1200C with mini-apes:

thanks for the replies

I Logged in and let the harley techs at arrowhead harley see the bikes and the quote dropped from $1200 to a little over $600 with labor includeed. So this forum has already saved me about $550. Thank You to all.
