883/1200 Conversion

I did a search and saw a lot of info on the conversion. I got the dished pistons and went with an andres 4N stock carb. Anyone else run this set up? What did you jet the carb with? I believe mine has a 45 intermediate jet and when I screw in the idle mixture I can go all the way without the engine quiting.

the 45 should be in the idle pilot ."small brass tube screwed into carb body " only accessable with float bowl removed.45 should be about right .if you can close your idle screw, fuel is leaking into throat .Did you use a new "tiny" o-ring on top of the accelerator pump nozzle .Either that or something in needle valve ,or float to high.Another possibility is you have butterfly open too far and it's actually sucking fuel up the Main. You can look down the throat and see if it's sucking fuel up the main(tube the slide needle goes into) ."tip" use a mirror .That way if it spits back you don't burn your face

Let us know how your set up performs...specifically with the 4N. A friend of mine is looking to step up the cam on his 1200 to that cam. Also, what exhaust are you using?

I ran N4's in my 93 1200 with KB pistons and a S&S E. That bike came alive! It would out run 600 riceburners to about 75-80. And I had the bike at 136 and still was pulling, but a car pulled out in front of me down the road. I didn't do any ignition work, and ran drag pipes. You might be a little hinder by the heads, I can't remember if the 883 had the same size valves as the 1200. But you get the off line advantage due to your smaller tranny pulley.

Built a bunch of those and put a Super E or 42mm Mikuni on them and they always ran great.

the older 883s ran a different head design then the 1200's.. the n4 cam is about the same as a stock xb buell cam. and with the xb style heads would make awsome power...

if you decide to keep your 883 heads p&p them if you got the money ideally pick up a set of xb heads or 2004 up sportster 1200 heads(same as the xb) and bore your 883 cyclinders out to a 1212 wich is like .040 or so... and i use the stock carb on mine 1242cc's 45 slow 170 main... and you will loose low end with drag pipes or a straight pipe period.. 2-1 is the best pipe if you want all out performance.. i had bissani pro streets on mine and felt the difference between vance and hince short shots......

with n4 cams 1200 kit and stock 883 heads youll get about 74 hp or so with stock pipes and ignition.... youll wanna look at doing a sc intake or something along those lines...

I was wanting to know if anyone knows where to get info on part numbers for a set of heads? Front head part# 16874-02y and rear head part# 16877-02y . Was told from a '04 Sportster. Any info would be great. Thanks

Try flatops, with a valve conversion and N-8's!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That really gets 'em running.

what kind of valve conversion? n8s are a good cam but youll make all your power in the upper rpm's.....

as far as the other question how to tell if you got the newer style heads.. the easiest way to tell is by looking at the valve springs.. if their beehive style then you got the newer style heads.... if they dont have a beehive spring and are blackheads no high lighted heads with a single wire coming out of the rear head then they are thunderstorm heads...
