Simple fuel question

Got a 07 XL1200L. How many more miles can I approximately go when the fuel light comes on?

Thanks.

Simple enough , push it to the limit and see if reserve works

how big is the tank?
1) buy gas as soon as the light comes on, see how much u buy
2) subtract that from the tank size
3) multiply that number by your mpg
ex: 4.5 - 3.8 = .7
.7 x 44mpg = 31 miles, therefore u will run out of gas 31 miles after the light comes on

Very good point, that's what I would do.

You've got a fuel light? Boy, these new bikes are gettin' fancy! I refill every 100-120 miles. That's my range with a 3.3-gallon peanut tank.

The wifes 07 1200L typically still has 1.5 gallons left in it when the light comes on, it would be good for another 60-70 miles but each bike can be different.

No "reserve" on the EFI bikes and all 07's are EFI.

Cool, thanks! I should get about 63 gallons then. That would make sense: According to my manual, I should get 42 miles/gal in the city and 50-something on the highway. Appx of course.

I can go 140-150 each tank. Switch to reserve and find a station. Which leads me to a question I was going to post. If I don't see any responses here I will post new thread. Is it OK to run every tank until you need the reserve? Or do you fill up before that? A buddy and I got into this discussion last night. He said it is not good to run tank down like that, but I just use it to let me know when to fill up each time.
