Intermittent Power Loss

'03 XL 1200. Cold bike start-up, engine runs fine. Warm engine start-up, long cranking time, sometimes huge carb and exhaust pops, can smell gas and when it does start, there is significant power loss and slower idle. I can let the bike sit for ten minutes and start it and most of the time it will run like a million bucks. I have cleaned the valve screen, bowl and jets. Checked the coil for proper resistance. Couldn't detect an intake leak. Checked the plug wires and the tank venting. Tank venting is O.K. to the vapor valve but I will replace it because it seems to be sticking. Something is happening between warm engine shut-down and start-up. Any help will be greatly appreciated. jeffdean.....

I would be suspect of a cracked coil, or bad wires, but you said you've checked those already.
