Jetting an '06 1200 Custom

I have a friend and her '06 1200 Custom has an SE air cleaner and V&H Straightshot pipes. The rear pipe is getting black residue from the front pipe which tells me its running too rich. I'm not sure what size jets are in the bike but they were installed by the dealer when she took delivery.

Anyone have a good suggestion for what should be in there for that setup?

Thanks!

Does the bike have stock jets, or did the dealer change them when the pipes and air cleaner were installed?

Ned.

Hi,

You can not tell rich or lean only from the exhaust color
or residue

to check for rich or lean you must look at the plugs

drive the bike till warm

install new plugs , drive fast and cruising for about 15 minutes then stop the motor
but do not let it idle !!, remove plugs and read it.
they should have a light tan color.

if the color is ok let the bike idle for 2 minutes , remove the plugs and if black adjust the idle mixture screw

Yes, the dealer rejetted the bike. I think its running rich.

I have to disagree with the other post about not being able to tell a rich or lean setup by the exhaust color. I'll take a look at the plugs but my guess is that its running rich.
