I had a detachable HD windshield for a short time and just hated it. There was so much wind buffeting that I had to take it off. Anyone else have the same experience?

89 fxstc upgrade

Old fat guy...lots of bikes...lots of what I want to do with them....current effort planned is v111 upgrade to an 89 FXSTC but getting little confused about how to upgrade the clutch to hold the engine torque......I know i need to get rid of the tapered mainshaft with the weak key way but uncertain about where and what to get for parts....fitment of the stock transmission to the v111 is another another thing....does it bolt right up of take some machining ?????......and then al of the parts for then transmission are listed for 90 and above......nothing much shows for the 86 -89 upgrade of the clutch to a splined shaft......so I am hoping to get some advice and help in this forum for this and other like st

Have the same issue with the buffeting, anything over 50 mph gives me a headache, wish it worked better for me because there are times when it would be nice to have.

Here's a shot of me on my 1991 FXSTC. I bought her new at Monty's Cycle in Bridgewater Mass when I was stationed up there. The pic was in 1994 going down Paris Mountain in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Sold her in 1998 prior to an overseas deployment.

Love my Softail Custom! Lots of blood and sweat have gone into it. My next project is buying a Profile Spoke Rear Wheel (Apollo SL) for it...then I'm done. Yea right!

20 years and the mods are finally affordable. Not a rich man and have had to be patient. Now, the time has come to rebuild. So begins just one of two projects. The FXR will be a later post in another arena. Can't figure out how to delete the back yard photo so you get a little bit of my home scenery with the mods! Forgot to mention I have 96,000 miles on the bike and compression is still 165 and better. The 89" stroker kit is on hold until further notice. I am getting plenty out the old 80" with the mods. For now.

Just want to expound on my recent mod post. With the 23/48 gear ratio and the pro clutch, I have stretched the shifting out 5-10 mph and now the cruising speed is 80 mph. Not 65 with the old 32/70. Harley likes to comply with the speed limits of the day. Now that things are opening up on the big roads, anyone with the older bike would be wise to gear down! Just saying.

Finally installed the rear spoke wheel and Shotgun Shock.

If any of you are on the fence about the Shotgun Shock, DO IT! You will not regret it!

Here my FX Softail Custom. I bought it 4 months ago. I changed the bars, risers, seat, windshield, primary chain & tensioner, tires, brakes, pipes, etc. It runs and rides great!
